5.0 out of 5 stars Its best to buy this one first
I had bought all the other Titania books before this (due to lack of stock) and I should have waited for this one. It gives all the initial insight into becoming a Witch and is a great stepping stone for the beginner. I have recommended it to friends and now I recommend it to you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best
The book was ok. Only on explaining things. It dwells too much around Wicca and one certain religion, when you can be any religion when doing spells. The ingredients are waaaay too hard to find and the spells are probably only for experienced older witches. I would say buy the book Everyday Magic by Dorothy Morrison..it's much better and has more and better working...

This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
I had bought all the other Titania books before this (due to lack of stock) and I should have waited for this one. It gives all the initial insight into becoming a Witch and is a great stepping stone for the beginner. I have recommended it to friends and now I recommend it to you.

The introduction tells you an idea of what a Witch is and also incldes a 'shopping list' (Invaluable to someone wanting to enter the craft). Titania speaks to you as an individual without patronising which (pardon the pun) I found inviting and undaunting. The spells are easy to follow and understand.

The best book out at the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book works, July 19, 2000

This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
Once upon a time there was a young witch who desparately needed a mode of transport other than the bus. As the universe designed, into her lap fell this particular book with spells for all purposes, including money. At first glance it seemed that the book was all gloss and pretty pictures beautiful on a bookshelf but not necessarily of any use. Then she spotted a spell that would, if it worked, be exactly what she needed. This best suited spell looked as though it would be most difficult to perform because some of the items required were not readily availble, and not easy to attain. Of course the optimum timespan to perform the spell was fast disappearing. Then as if by magick all the items she was missing appeared..via friends and great timing...so she performed the spell releasing all the energy she could muster to the universe and in 3 days she had a brand new car and she drove around to her hearts content happily ever after :)... so there you go.. the book has validity, the spells work, and not just on the little things in life. A very useful witches tool The End :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting.., March 1, 1999
This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
Hocus POcus will always be dear to my heart as it was my birst wiccan book. It inspired me to go on further. It has beatiful illustrations and is bound well, but when compared to other books it does seem to lack substance. They are just spells with none of the magic, she consciously misses out the religion, perhaps so as not to 'frighten' off the non pagan? It inspires you to do more, but it is the ulitmate beginners guide, I wouldn't recommend it for established witches. it can also be frustrating because it can be hard to do the spells exactly right - the times are quite specific etc and the book doesn't explore how oyu can improvise, and that at the core of it all is your own magic, not that of a sprig of basil. But then again, it is my baby, and a book I've read hudnreds of times.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few best spellbooks out there!, March 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
This book will always be my favorite. It was my first spellbook and I love it dearly. The pictures are wonderful and the book is well bound, so it will last for a very long time. It is great for beginer as well as the experienced. I'm not just saying this to help the sales of the book, but I really think it's one of the few best out there. I have searched for ones better or equal to its quality and am still searching. Well I hope you will consider getting this wonderful book to either add to your collection or start one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Beginners, March 24, 2000

This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
I got this book on a whim, and it was one of the best impulse buys I have ever made! This book is perfect for a beginner, like me. Titania gives you lists of items needed, practice techniques, and her spells are so easy to use. The tone she uses is instructive, not patronizing. Some of the spells were very specific, and not very useful to me...but maybe they will be someday. I love this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not to be underestimated, August 7, 2000
This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
This was my first book on magick, though not my introduction. I loved the spells and found the ones I tried to work. I especially recomend 'The mad tea party' on page 52 and 'Three woven ribbons to strengthen the bond'on page 31. The book is a delight to read and to look at as it has beautiful pictures and a lovely cover. All of Titania's books are very dear to me. There are two reasons why I gave the book four stars instead of five: first of all I missed the basics on witchcraft; what does the religion mean and exists of; what do wiccans believe and Titania didn't explain in depth why you have to perform certain spells in certain moon cycles. The second reason: on another bookshop site I read a few reviews on Titania's books written by teenagers who used her spells to surround themselves by 'hot guys'. Those persons completely missed the message. I hope Titania will make the true message more clearer in her next book. The four stars I gave the book are fully deserved. It is a wonderful book but before starting on these spells, read a little more about wicca, Titania's book 'Enchanted' and 'Teenwitch' and 'To ride a silver broomstick' by Silver Ravenwolf are wonderful starters!

3.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful & inspriational Beginning, December 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells (Hardcover)
Titania Hardie did a slpendid job in capturing the mind, as well as, the imagination. She has a valid and critical point that the action of "spell" needs to be researched before playing. The book is an aesthetic journey with its glorious photographs and Titania's voice. The exploration of the ceremonial context for spells are not deeply discussed; & important to me is that under the plastic paper cover is a beautiful book.
