This vermiculite is "coarse," the kind you will want if you are practicing the Square Foot Gardening technique as described in Mel Barthalamew's book.

I just mixed up Mel's mix using this and it seems to work fine. After doing the calculations and comparing the volume of this product with other ingredients such as the peat moss, it appears each bag is about 1 cubic foot. Mixing this growing soil mix has been the most expensive part of my raised bed gardening project, but it makes a great growing medium by just looking at it.

So one star off because the stuff is priced a bit on the high side.

When I ordered mine it was eligible for Amazon Prime. After I ordered it, they took it off Prime and only available via 3rd party sellers now :(.

I purchased this product because the first few reviews claimed it was "coarse grade" vermiculite, and the only verm I'm able to obtain locally is fine grade. Well, when this arrived I cracked up the bag to find the finest fine grade vermiculite I've ever seen. I mean this stuff was like sand. So to my dismay I paid 3x as much as I would have paid for the same amt of verm locally, and didn't get the product i had hoped I would
