Editorial Reviews

Stamitz was a violinist, violist and composer, a formidable virtuoso who absorbed much from his predecessors in the Mannheim school. His Viola Concerto in D is a brilliantly conceived work, full of technical demands more often encountered in virtuosic nin

This is an outstanding recording of music from the Mozart era and the soloist and orchestra are exemplary! I find myself listening to it over and over again. It's refreshing to hear recordings of this type of music other than Mozart or Beethoven. There were really many wonderful composers of this era and this showcases this statement very well!

Victoria Chiang's playing is not to be missed. Bringing this music out into our listening world is more than worth the price of purchase for any Music Library.

I was not aware of these viola concertos until hearing the one by Stamitz on Sirius/XM. The sound of the viola in the Stamitz is just wonderful and moving, coming from a contemporary of Mozart. Such a pleasant surprise full of virtuosity and pleasing sound. I've been collecting recordings of the few viola concertos that exist and these are already among my favorites. It's not often we get to hear a well-played viola in such an attractive role with such outstanding sound quality.

Victoria Chiang is a remarkable artist. The BCO plays these pieces with panache. These are wonderful concerti from the 18th century age of enlightenment that are poignant and wistful. When one hears Victoria Chiang play the viola it becomes readily apparent why Mozart loved to play the viola.
