Well I dont actually have this fondue pot but I fealt I must clear the air on fondue pot usage.
The fondue pot is stainless steel. Stainless steel fondue pots are for oil based fondue. If you wish to make chocolate or cheese fondue you need to use a ceramic insert or cheese/chocolate specific fondue pots. Hoffritz along with other companies offer them.

We have attempted both chocolate and cheese fondue in this pot and both have burned. The last time we were especially careful to constantly check the cheese and adjust the flame, but it burned anyway. The thin stainless steel pan has no pad on the bottom, and the large fuel container allows for a lot of heat. We are going to make one last attempt with this pot in hopes...

So the above reviews about burnt cheese and chocolate well thats expected from a stainless steel fondue pot regardless of the brand. Now if the instructions or the product claim its usage is for cheese and chocolate well thats a different story.
Excluding recipe guide of course because those recipe guides are generic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, but pot can be tough to clean, December 11, 2000
This review is from: Hoffritz Stainless Steel Fondue Set With 6 Forks (Kitchen)
I've made dessert and cheese fondue with this set. Both types turned out without a problem.

However, I've had some problems getting the pot cleaned. Especially with the dessert fondue that has a tendency to scorch where the heat is applied.

The notched lid, designed to hold your forks, doesn't seem to work very well in practice. In the end, we typically remove the lid, as it gives us better access to the pot.

The thin stainless steel pan has no pad on the bottom, and the large fuel container allows for a lot of heat. We are going to make one last attempt with this pot in hopes that it will make good broth and/or oil fondue for meat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing fondue - beef, chocolate and cheese!, December 12, 2000
This review is from: Hoffritz Stainless Steel Fondue Set With 6 Forks (Kitchen)
Swiss friends of ours got us hooked on beef fondue - you heat up oil and dip each piece of beef into it, sitting around talking, dipping it into various sauces, nibbling on vegetables. It was a FANTASTIC way to spend an evening. We did a lot of research into fondue sets and this one was by far the best.

Many fondue sets barely do chocolate, and don't heat it up very evenly. This set has a great flame-control system, and definitely handles chocolate, cheese, and oil. Have friends over for a leisurely dinner of meat and veggies and fresh bread! Or spend the evening with a loved one with chocolate and various fruits, sipping port by the fire. No matter how you use it, it'll be a fantastic time.

Highly recommended - get two so you can have a beef dinner and chocolate dessert!

2.0 out of 5 stars My family & I really enjoy fonduing especially my 10 yr old, July 25, 2001

I had purchased the same exact Hoffritz fondue pot as pictured but while heating olive oil for fonduing steak the handle of the pot melted off the very first time I used it. It makes tranferring the pot from stove to table very difficult- not to mention dangerous! Also, the oil goes from extremely hot-splattering hot oil all over and burning the outside of everything to taking forever to cook 15 minutes later even though the burner below is on.In my opinion an electric burner might be easier to control temperature and keep temp more even.

Whenever I use the fondue set it burns too hot and anything I am cooking ends up with a burnt taste. I close the lid to the heater element and it still burns too hot. I dont' know what to do to prevent this from happening.

2.0 out of 5 stars BURNT FONDUE, December 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoffritz Stainless Steel Fondue Set With 6 Forks (Kitchen)
We have had no luck heating the fondue in this fondue pot. It burns even when you turn the heat way down. We had to keep lighting the sterno and then putting it out again in order to keep the cheese from returning to its solid form. I'm not impressed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Burned Cheese, December 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoffritz Stainless Steel Fondue Set With 6 Forks (Kitchen)
After carefully following all instructions in my recipe and for the fondue pot, the expensive cheese fondue I made burned rather quickly once it was ready to serve. The pot holding the sterno did not come with a cover and even when I used aluminum foil the heat was too intense. Next time I will use a smaller sized sterno. Since this product seems to be troublesome to so many people, I wonder if it's been recalled or if Hoffritz would accept a return????
