Love this book! As a big fan of "Hogan's Heroes" I bought this book.Takes a look at cast members and their work before and after the show.Covers all the episodes and much more.
I gave this book 5 stars due to the amount of information and its thoroughly enjoyable. The only disappointment was it lacks a lot of photos.Good value though and worth every cent. This book will please most fans of the show.

Hogan's Heroes is my all-time favorite TV comedy show, not just because of the humor, but because of the interaction of the characters and the World War II setting. I can't think of one single episode throughout the entire course of the series that I don't like for one reason or another. It was well-written, well-acted and well-produced/directed, and deserved more than the few Emmys it received at the time. It's hard to say enough good things about this book, which to date has been the ONLY book on the series! Brenda Scott Royce, herself a long-time fan of the show, did a fantastic job. Just about everything most real fans of this classic and underappreciated TV series could want to find out is here. There are plot synopses of all the episodes of the series and original air dates, sections about each of the main characters/actors, and interesting related information. Only one area is lacking, a slight deficiency of photos. But the end result is still a treasure trove of information, thanks to the author's extensive research and interviews.

A wealth of information on all 6 seasons of Hogan's Heroes. You get a short description of each episode, broadcast dates (even the original times and competing TV shows),guest appearances, even some trivial bits- all worth reading.
Around half the book (first half) covers the stars themselves giving details about their lives and careers, even listing TV, Movie and other credits for them. This part also has stuff on the writers/producers and the development of the series. I found this to have a lot of fascinating stuff in it. Robert Hogan, Bob Crane's character, was created by Bernard Fein who took the name of a friend- actor Robert Hogan ( you may notice his name listed in a season one episode, the actor played a POW deciding to escape on his own, messing up Hogan's planned group escape). I was surprised to read how many of the cast were actually Jewish (they took some flak for it when the show came on too). I'd heard that the show is now popular in Germany, it's explained here that the translators have basically written their own scripts to go with the pictures- so to me it isn't really even the same program anymore. One of the few complaints I have about this book is age related, written in 1998 a few more of the cast members have died since it was written. You won't get many nuts & bolts details of each episode but you will get a very nice guide to the series. It's well worth owning, especially if someone ever gets around to producing more DVD sets than just the present 1st season.

Loved Brenda's book. It is a slightly revised version of her original HH's hardcover book. But comparing them both, this one has more information on the episodes. Otherwise much the same as the original. Well worth a read for dedicated HH's fans

A fun read,
This review is from: Hogan's Heroes : Behind the Scenes at Stalag 13! (Paperback)
I had just begun to watch reruns of "Hogan's Heroes" when TVLand suddenly yanked it from their schedule, for whatever reason. I decided to read this book in order to see what I'd missed. I thought it was a really fun read, especially the biographies/filmographies of the cast members. It's very thorough (encompassing all the episodes, lots of interesting behind-the-scenes stuff, et cetera) and I imagine any fan of the show will enjoy reading it a lot.

This is a very comprehensive edition of this book. It covers just about everything there is to cover about the show, the characters, roles of re-curring actors and more. It's an improvement over the original version that came across as more of a text book. This version has a better color and more eye-appealing graphics inside. The episode guide is very handy while watching episodes from the video collection (mine's from Columbia House). The only drawbacks I can think of is that it could use more color photos and I did notice one trivia answer that was incorrect--The coffee pot is a direct-line hook-up and is not a radio receiver... but aside from minor things like that I heartily recommend this book.

It's a great resource for the series, just too bad that there's not much in the way of photos in it. There's just a token few but it's obviously meant more as an episode guide than anything else. After searching the internet, it's the only book on the series that I can find so it is what it is. The information is accurate and useful. There's a tid bid of info regarding Hogan collectibles but no more than a paragraph about it. If this would ever be revised, I'd recommend adding color photos, more behind the scenes and how they filmed it as well as photos and info about the backlot location where it was filmed (Stalag 13 was built on top of the set for Tara from Gone With the Wind right next to the Gomer Pyle USMC and Andy Griffith Show Mayberry sets!). One last suggestion- When they finally release all six seasons of Hogan's Heroes on DVD, this would be a great companion book to go with the set. Maybe that alone would offer the author/publisher to consider a revised edition as suggested.

The moment I receive the box containing this book, I gobbled it up [the book, not the box]. A much appreciated 'Red Cross package' for any Hogan's Heroes fan. I particularly enjoyed the episode guide portion. Although it is not a blast by blast account of every bit of dialogue or mayhem per episode [great pity], it is still more detailed than other episode guides of other sit. coms. The few disappointments: 1) Very few pictures, and those that are there are in black and white. 2) Not enough lengthly descriptions of my favorite bits in each plot summary. Still, the author would need to put in every line in every script to satisfy me completely.

In this book it answers all your questions. The answer to the infamous Stalag 13 vs. Stalag 17; answers to questions you've never even thought about before. A comprehensive episode guide even including highlights and endings. About the characters and much more. This book is the best for such a good price.
