This review is from: Hogan's Heroes - The Complete First Three Seasons (DVD)
Oh joy! My complete boxed set of Hogan's Heroes episodes arrived yesterday. Growing up, this was my favorite show, and in its sydication heydey I could manage to watch as many as three episodes a day. Alas, it is not even available on TV Land anymore. But thanks to the miracle of technology, I can now own all 116 episodes. Imagine a modern TV series churning out close to 30 shows in a season! But the best part was that after dinner my ENTIRE FAMILY sat down in the same room to watch a TV show TOGETHER! An eight year old, two middle schoolers, and two adults all laughing at the friendly guard dogs, the prisoners' steam room, and the commandant's secretary who moonlights as a manicurist for the prisoners. I guess what I always enjoyed the most was the show's inventiveness: the coffee pot phone tap, the antennae coming out of the flag pole. My children loved the show as much as I did, and now we have something we can all appreciate--the way television shows used to be.
