3.0 out of 5 stars Not as controllable as Havoc Heli.
I bought the micro because I had the Havoc Heli and liked it. The micro is not as controllable as the bigger version, but still fun to fly when it works. Unfortunately, the particular one I got didn't function that well, it spins wildly and the trim controls only worked intermittently. o.k. I'm brand new to any Air Hogs product or even R/C helicopters but I really like this R/C toy. I bought one of these for 20 bucks for my 13 year old son's birthday but it turned out that my 10 year old daughter really loves it. The helicopter charges from the remote (which also houses the helicopter which I think is a great idea and prevents loss/separation of heli/control!) Runs about 20 minutes before needing around a 15 minute charge. Our dog thinks this thing is a bug and loves jumping while he watches it. It seems very durable because we have crashed it a lot. The steering has a little bit to be desired. I researched the air hog on youtube and found that if you insert a very light small screw in the nose, the front of the heli points a little downward and makes for better forward movement. Also a very important point: After several runs the heli would start spinning on lift off and we couldn't "trim" it to straighten flight. The cause? Our dogs hair on the carpet wrapping around the small rear propellor. If you have a dog or carpet every now and then you need to examine the back prop for hair or thread, remove the prop, and untwist the hair off the back prop axle. Takes 4 AA batteries and since the remote also has to charge I'd recommend using rechargable batteries as I do. Heli is a very small package and we just keep it on the living room coffee table. Until someone picks it up and flies it! I'm sure there are much better heli's but for the money but this was one of the best gifts I've ever given my children (or Dad!)for fun value. I actually bought another one for my daughter on Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick Fun, December 18, 2008

If you can find it for cheap (~20) it is well worth the entertainment. You should understand what you are getting for that price, though. It is not some amazing high tech expensive looking/feeling toy. This thing feels and looks cheap but it is durable and a great bit of fun.

Pros: Very fun
Rewarding once you master the controls

Cons: Cheap product (but for a cheap price)
Battery charge lasts for 5-10 minutes of flight
Challenging to learn the controls

I would highly recommend this product based on how fun it is and how rewarding it is once you get the controls down.

Note: You will crash this thing, many times. Fortunately it can withstand quite a beating. When learning the controls, be patient. Try to get the elevation down first before messing with the left/right.

3.0 out of 5 stars Experienced pilot, REAL helicopter builder/flyer, and R/C modeler - Review of Havoc Air Hogs, July 7, 2009

I hope my words will help some out there. As an engineer, commercial pilot (fixed and rotary wing), experimental helicopter builder, and avid R/C modeler since the Dead Sea was still sick, I enjoy all things that fly. The Havoc Helis are no exception. I've owned/given as gifts many of these, and while they are generally fragile creatures - they have to be kept extremely light, after all - the biggest gripe I have is the inconsistency of trim-related problems.

Recently, I found four helis and two controllers on eBay for $[...]. I figured it was worth it to have the ability to make at least two work. I was able to dissect the units, repair one with a useless main mast drive, etc. One thing I can't seem to resolve is the CCW spin, no matter how much trim is dialed in on the trim button. Comparison of the two working units to the two others which are spinnage-challenged indicates that the tail rotor motors on those two seem weak. I plan to do more investigation and dissection, but I believe the tail rotor thrusts are weak, probably due to weak motors. Typical MBA-encrusted, Made-in-China lack of quality control.

If you find a Havoc Heli with workable trim, congratulations, and have fun! It's a shame there's not more QC on this product - it could be a really fun toy - especially the Battling Helis!

Cheers

Doesn't trim well. Does not recover easily from any disturbance. Doesn't hover at all. Steering did not work at all well. I'm sticking with the $[...]-$[...] RC helicopters.

Video is somewhat misleading in showing the ease of flying.

In my 9-year old son's words: This product is not fun at all. It eats up your batteries. It can't even hover in the same spot for two seconds. I hated it. I would never never never never never recommend this to anybody.

I got this for my nephew for Christmas. He had been wanting an RC helicoptor and I was very excited to give this to him. When he opened it up Christmas morning, he was so disappointed when he realized it would not work. We thought it was the batteries and changed them, and it still would not work. The lights turned on the docking station but the helicoptor would not move at all. To make matters worse, I could not return it because the packaging got mixed in with all the other wrapping and we never did find it. This was a huge waste of money.

Bought this for my 6 yr old nephew. He loved to fly it into walls and such. That didn't do much damage. But the rotors do get hair caught in them and that just kills it's flying ability. Would not purchase this product again.

This was a purchase for my 11 year old boy for Christmas and he was having a good old time learning how to navigate. He was using it indoors because it is super small, lightweight and quiet but he kept crashing on the carpet. The problem is that small fibers or hair would get wrapped around the rotor and then it wouldn't fly right anymore. Then the rotor fell off and the tiny wire that works it broke and is too tiny to solder. This all happened in the first 12 hours after he got it! I would recommend using it somewhere that won't hurt it during crash landings and where nothing will get tangled in the blades. Given the chance, I wouldn't buy one again because it's too much money to throw away for a day of play.
