OverMolding provides the ultimate in a comfortable, non-slip, super smooth attractive finish that is durable and extremely quiet. The exclusive Cobblestone texture further enhances all Hogue stocks by providing an efficient non-slip, non irritating stippling pattern. OverMolded Stocks are constructed by molding a super strong, rigid fiberglass reinforced skeleton or "insert" that precisely fits the guns' action. This rigid skeleton is then OverMolded with a durable but soft synthetic elastomer (rubber). During the heat and extreme pressure of injection molding the elastomer adheres chemically as well as mechanically to the skeleton, resulting in a permanent bond between the rubber and the insert. The super strong skeleton gives the stocks their strength, and the precise molded dimensions provide a perfect drop-in fit of your rifle or shotgun. The state of the art elastomer material used on Hogue stocks won't harden with age and is virtually impervious to all oils and solvents found around firearms, providing years of dependable service.

FOREND WILL NOT FIT ALL 500's RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. This forend is designed to replace Mossberg's that have the existing 7-3/4" slide tube. That is, the existing forend is mounted on a tube which slides on the magazine tube, said tube is 7-3/4". OK now, Mossberg 500's have 3 separate ways of mounting the forend to the shotgun. First is the 7-3/4" tube, which will require nothing for this forend to work. Second, it will have a 6-3/4" slide tube which will require Hogue part # 05020 which is an adapter for the shorter slide tube. In some cases, it will also require that you grind down some of the ribs in the new forend to accommodate the adapter (the one i received had the ribs pre-ground). Third method, there is no slide tube. The forend on the shotgun is a forend/slide tube combo. This will require you buy the new factory slide tube (from some place that sells Mossberg factory parts like Brownells, Mossberg part#12362BL, Brownell's Part#631-000-295. This is for the 6 3/4" slide, as it's cheaper than than the 7 3/4" slide with the locking nut.), and the Hogue adapter. To replace the slide, you will need to completely tear down the shotgun as the slide is one of the last pieces to be removed from the receiver.
Hogue needs to do a better job informing its customers what they will need to make this package work with their shotgun, it's not like Mossberg 500's are some obscure firearm. When looking at Hogue's web support, there numerous help requests for this exact problem, and while I understand Amazon might not readily update it's product descriptions, Hogue's packaging itself makes no mention of this.

If you have a Mossberg 500 with worn wood and your looking for a full stock this is the one. Comfort and handling is unmatched. Blasted away at the trap range and felt recoil was greatly reduced. The textured fore end and grip area add to the positive feeling of this stock. Hands down if you ain't got one you need one.

I recently purchased this stock to replace my pistol grip. It installed without a hitch. I took it to a gunsmith to replace the forend since I didn't have the wrench to take it off, but that was only $10 for him to do it. If replacing a pistol grip, make sure to find a new stock bolt, as this one requires a much longer one than the pistol grip. Give Mossberg customer service a call at (800) 363-3555 and they'll send you one, FREE :)
As for the quality of the product, well, it's a Hogue. The rubberized grips feel fantastic; you will have no problem what so ever pulling the slide back in any condition. The butt pad is probably my favorite part of this weapon. It is far superior to any I've used in the past. I can go through several hundred rounds in an afternoon and not have a bruise.

Nice Stock

Good stuff
Came as promised and fit my mossberg 500a no problem. Even had illustrated instructions. This fits the 7.75" forearm tube.

Works and fits nicely...
Looks great, feels good and shoots well. The only reason I'm giving four stars is that it really should come with a replacement bolt. Other than that I love it.
