I purchased the Hogue pistol grip & forend for my 500, and it works well and looks great, but you may need to purchase a new forend extension nut for your gun. The pistol grip installed painlessly. The forend required a forend wrench which I had to purchase separately. I also had to shave a bit of rubber from over mold, to prevent it from rubbing on a heat shield that I also added to the gun.

Pistol grip fits on great. But make sure you have the mossberg 500 that has the castle nut on the end of the pump or it will not fit. I have the other style where the guide rails are part of the pump handle. I have to buy the one that has the castle nut in order to use the pump.

So if there are different types of Model 500's with completely different ways of attaching this why isn't it in the description or the instructions? Brand new Mossberg 500. Doesn't fit. Of course the 500 owner's manual doesn't show pics or address this.

Did not come with longer forearm nut so I had to order seperate.....OK no big deal right ?
Inserted new longer nut and Hogue forearm cracked right down the middle cause its has a cheap plastic liner

If you have a Mossberg 500 Combo set from Wal-Mart this fits perfect but you must buy the adapter nut found here.. [...]
Its a very durable rubber grip set that will work good even in the rain.
its does make the forearm release button a bit harder to reach but not too bad, other than that this is a great pistol grip set & I would recommend it to anyone that wants to remove the wood stock set for home defense or a more tactical look.

really the best fitting, cleanest looking pistol grip for any shotgun, Hogue rubber grips are the best grips, comfortable, affordable, extremely good grip!

Quick and easy install on Mossberg 500, with detailed directions, fits very precise. Small pebble-like texture is very comfortable. Hard rubber doesn't make hands sweaty.

I own a Mossberg 500 Persuader w/ Heatshield, 7+1 Capacity (Not From WalMart). Installing the pistol grip was really easy. The forend was a bit more difficult to install because it requires the weapon to be disassembled, but Mossberg 500s are easy to take down and put back together if you know what to do. The Hogue grips look great and in my opinion are a lot better than the grips from the factory because they are more ergonomic and will not easily slip (unlike the originals).

After reading several other reviews and taking their advice, I am quite happy with the end result. The grips themselves are a nice, solid mold that don't slip in your hands. Installation was very easy but there were a couple extras that are required beyond the original grips and were recommended by other reviewers. For reference, I put this on a 12ga combo set from Walmart.
1) The rubber forend is a bit longer than the OEM wood forend so you'll need a new adapter nut. The Hogue Stock Forend Adapter Nut For Mossberg 835 Model & 6.75-Inch Forend Tubes worked great for this.
2) You'll also need a wrench to be able to tighten this nut. There were several brands available. I went with the UTG Deluxe Universal Shotgun Forend Wrench. The tabs on this wrench were slightly wider than the slots in the adapter nut but it wasn't anything a nice file couldn't fix.
3) When removing the OEM buttstock, my standard #1 screwdriver was not long enough to reach the attachment screw. Great excuse to 'have' to go to the store and buy a new tool.

This is not a plug and play forend for the mossberg 500. the pistol grip is great, but the forend doesn't work on a 500. Some of the other reviews suggest a nut is required? and a wrench. I don't see anything about that in the product description. The instructions that come with it seem to be for a mossberg 590.
