5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite harp..., July 8, 2005
This review is from: Hohner Golden Melody Harmonica, Key of A (Electronics)
Back when I was learning to play harmonica I tried many different styles and brands before discovering these Golden Melody harps. I really like the sound they produce and the ease of "bending" notes, even for beginners. I also really like the fact that all of the edges are rounded, making it much more comfortable on both your mouth and your hands. I know many of the greats swear by the "Marine Band" harmonica, and to tell the truth I wish the Golden Melody had wood instead of plastic edges, but I choose this one as my favorire based on the results I get with it.

Now as for the key of A... this is my favorite key to play in. It is perfect for blues and a lot of rock songs...

5.0 out of 5 stars one of a kind, March 17, 2006
This review is from: Hohner Golden Melody Harmonica, Key of A (Electronics)
this is my favorite type of harmonica in my favorite key. The harp is easier to hold and play because of its curved ends. It also produces a good sound without much effort and it's also very easy to bend notes on it. It does have plastic and not wooden edges but that doesn't bother me. I prefere the key of a because it gives out a deeper sound which is perfect for the blues. So if you want a good harp then you should give a Hohner Golden Melody a try in any key. I would reccomend one in the key of C for begginers because it would be easier to learn on, I think.

This is probably my favorite type of harmonica. The sound is unmistakably bright and resonant, much more so than any of my other harps. Bending comes with ease, though the first hole is a bit more difficult, partly due to the lower key. The shape is odd, but one may become accustomed to that with only a little time. As with most of Hohner's less expensive cases, the glue connnecting the plastic lining to the case stops sticking after a few years, but that is only a minor setback. So overall, a wonderful harmonica that I would highly recommend to just about anyone.

i have three groups for the sound that i hear out of the few middle line harmonicas ($30 harps.)
1. grungy an dirty blues-Hohner Marine Band Harmonica, Key of C
(your grandpa's harmonica, old style pear wood body) Adam Gusso
2. rich with a little bass in its voice -Hohner Special Twenty Harmonica, Key of C
(Honer Special 20, my prefrence) Adam West
3. sweet, strong attack - Hohner Golden Melody Harmonica, Key of C
(golden melody) jason Ricci
Golden melody is a top notch harmonica. every note as crisp and clear as the last.while being in the correct key it still seems to maintain that "sharp classical clairity" that ive come to appriciate. Jason Ricci is who i am thinking of. when he goes of on his "clasical tangents" during a harmonica solo its something to be desired. honestly those three are the top of the line in the normal price range for harmonicas.
my advice, go on youtube and type in these harmonicas to really hear the differences.
the lee oscar falls between 2 and three and deservs mentioning with the other quality $30 harmonicas.Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Harmonica, C
