Great holder, but don't expect it to last,
By Welsh (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
The title of my review says it all. The Hohner harmonica holder was the first one I ever purchased, and it performed fantastically. Due to the wide angle of the neck brace and the plastic tube covering it, I never had a single problem with the holder moving and sliding around my neck. My only complaint is that, after a few months of heavy use, the two small pivots that was moved into place to keep the harmonica from falling out began to loosen. A month later, and they were entirely useless, leaving the harmonica free to fall out. This was so bad that I opted to by a new holder (the one by Lee Oskar, which also has issues -- in particular, it slides around my neck way too much). Still, I'd have to recommend the Lee Oskar holder for those starting out. If Hohner changes the hinge design on this, it'll be hands-down the best harmonica holder out there.

Buy the Lee Oskar,
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
Buy this if you want to develop scoliosis. There is no way to adjust it to make it comfortable to play unless you have no neck. Lee Oskar makes a great holder for 10 holes that is easy to adjust into a comfortable position. You may have to bend it a bit (everyone's frame is different so don't let that put you off) but at least that's possible with the Lee Oskar whereas it's not at all with the Hohner, which is too thick to bend. That thickness also means that it weighs far too much, making it even more uncomfortable.

Received my Hohner harmonica holder and as with all Hohner products it is first rate. No complaints at this point. It holds my harp firmly and the fit will probably work for almost any size person. The product arrived on time and packaged so that there was no damage to the product upon arrival.

It's uncomfortable because Hohner assembled it incorrectly,
By
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
The Hohner 'heavy duty' (wide) harmonica holder has been assembled incorrectly for many decades, and no one seems to notice.
The problem is that if you wear it so that you can put harps in the holder, with the swing arms away from you, then the neck loop lower ends are digging into your chest, especially the wing nut on the right side. The wing nut is supposed to be on your left side, with the ends of the neck loop sweeping up and away from your chest. If you go to Google Images and search for: hohner harmonica holder, you will see that it's only the wide, heavy duty one that's assembled incorrectly, other models, such as the 10 hole version are assembled correctly. There are at least two ways you can remedy this. I bent the two L-shaped swinging parts, that hold the harp towards you, flat and then swung them to the other side and re-bent the 90 degree bends. There is significant possibility of metal fatigue (i.e., breaking off the tabs) with this method and I don't recommend it. What I would do, if I bought another one, is to grind off the rivet at the non-adjustable pivot point, remove the wing-nut/bolt on the other side, reverse the neck loop, replace the rivet with a small bolt and nut, put the bolt and wing-nut on the left side and your in operation. When I bought mine I took it back to the store and got the story: "You are the first person to ever complain!" They sent me to their Canadian distributor who said: "You are the first person to ever complain!" He sent me to his US distributor who said: "You are the first person to ever complain!" He gave me a contact in the Hohner factory in Germany who said: "You are the first person to ever complain! But, you are right, we have been assembling them incorrectly for decades"

Uncomfortable for a tall boy, too long for a ten-hole,
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
I got this harp rack a couple of months ago, and I'm pretty unsatisfied. I stand about six feet tall and I've a long neck, and I have to bend my head way down in order to reach the harmonica. It's made to fit all kinds of harmonicas, but the ten hole just kind of sits in the middle. I have a tendency to slide off the end of the harp when using this holder. Add to this a bunch of heavy metal that leaves imprints on your chests and you've got a harp rack that just isn't worth the trouble.
Pros: fits any old harp you could imagine Cons: Too long for a ten-hole, too short for Average Joe, and too heavy when sitting on the chest.

Good holder, but....,
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
I recently got into harp playing a few months ago, to learn a few folk songs(dylan, Young, Pety, etc) and use it to accompany my guitar playing. When I picked up my first harp, I picked up this holder to use with it. After using it for a little while, I found out that it does fit my neck good, and stays in place, but some of my harps, like my Hohner Special 20s and others do not fit to well or rest to well in the holder. They set to far back. My Lee Oskar harps fit better, because they are a little bit wider. Thats just my observation. Mine has the big black wingnut on it. I also bought the Hohner 10 hole holder, which I think fits me better, but its made in China, where as this one is made in Germany. Oh well trade one thing for another.

I want to be Bob Dylan,

Perhaps Counting Crow's biggest contribution to rock and roll is their lyric in Mr. Jones, "I wanna be Bob Dylan." Anyone who has ever picked up a guitar (and has a soul) has envisioned themselves as Dylan. And if playing the guitar and signing wasn't hard enough, try harmonica! You'll have a new appreciation for Dylan, Tom Petty, Blitzen Trapper, and more.
The Hohner Harmonica Holder fits most harmonicas. Mine is an 18-hole, and it fits just fine, although it's really made for a 10-hole. It's so comfortable around your neck that you'll hardly feel it. It was a great purchase and I'm extremely happy with it. Now I need to figure out how to play both together and make it sound like music.

Good solid holder,

The Hohner Harmonica Holder (specifically HH-154) is my first attempt at a harp holder. And it works great.
The springs aren't too stiff or too loose. They hold the harp well. The frame is very rugged. The plastic tubing on the neck piece makes it more comfortable and prevents it from sliding around as much. The wing nut at the joint tightens fine. I've read from one of the reviews that the ends of the neck loop points downward and sticks into your chest. My solution was to flip it around. The joint rotates like 360, so there shouldn't be a problem (unless you have a harmonica larger than 10 hole, cuz the metal tabs that help keep the harp in place might get in the way). And my friend that has had this same holder for a few years now said the ends pointing down helps keep the harp in place. Height wise, it's a bit on the low end, but I manage fine (I'm 6'1"). Overall, solid construction and sturdy. And made in Germany. So that's a bonus.

Holder is just ok. The spring is much too tight and is difficult to put the harmonica in it.It's a complete work-out.

A great addition to the set,
This review is from: Hohner Harmonica Holder (Electronics)
This holder works well with all of the different harmonicas that I own. Including some Honer, both diatonic and chromatic. I like its ability to adjust. If you buy one, make sure to set it just a little closer than a comfortable reach. When you go to play it will settle down a little.
