Not really a 'pair'...,
By
This review is from: Plastic Finger-Size Castanet (Toy)
This castanet is very easy for your child to use, BUT, don't be confused by the term 'pair' here...I guess that refers to the two 'sides' of the castanet? Because they only send one--as in just a single castanet, not one for each hand! SO, don't make my mistake, and make sure you order two 'pairs!'

Great for Pre-K and even younger.,

I use these for teaching music in preschools. The kids absolutely love them.
It's perfect for hand/eye coordination and they love the click sounds it makes. I love that it's plastic so it's difficult to break. It's a great way to introduce children to a unique instrument and have fun exploring with it.

I bought 6 pairs and I'm happy with them. I'm teaching my daughter (3.3 y.o.) rhythm and she enjoys making sounds with them. (She immediately learned the word, "castanet", too.) I use castanets for a circle time when I have playgroup/playdate for my daughter.
I have an expensive set of musical instruments as well; but, you don't need to spend a lot of money to introduce music (rhythm) to toddlers. I take my daughter to a music class and learned that most toddlers enjoy simple musical instruments like castanets. Even after kids grow up you can still play the "Simon Said" rhythm game using the castanets. They are very affordable and great musical instruments.

Why would someone only want one castanet?,

What a complete rip-off! I paid $10.42 with shipping for one little castanet. I am so mad. For some reason I thought I was buying the set of four pictured. That was my fault. If I got even a set, which is two people, we each have two hands, I may not have been so mad but seriously, one castanet! Ridiculous for the price.

what happened?,

We ordered 5 castanets last October for $1 each - now they are $4.95 each? Why in the world would they increase in price so much?
My husband actually uses these for his employees in his office, and asked me to buy more for him. At $5 a pop, I will be looking somewhere else ETA: I found them online elsewhere for $1 each; I will be purchasing them there!

My daughter wanted castanets for Christmas and we ordered online - there was no choice in color (I would have preferred pink for her). She got blue ones, she still loves them and plays with them often.

They work well,

My kids are 2 and 3 years old but don't really get how to use these. However, I use them when they break out all their instruments. I like them.
