This is the most wonderful toy ever invented. I worked with babies in a hospital for two months over the summer and this was the only thing I needed to make them stop crying. Even while they were in what could only be immense pain the remained fascinated with the rainstick. It can be a little bit loud, so it's not ideal for public areas, but seriously, I swear by the rainmaker.

We bought this for our daughter's 1st birthday and we love it! So much fun to play with...even our older kids like it. I wasn't sure if this size would be too small, but its perfect. I wouldn't want it any larger.

This rainmaker is brightly colored and made of plastic, which is good for a young child. It doesn't sound as much like real rain as the more realistic stick-looking ones do, but it's good for a toy and a young child will find it fascinating. Quality construction and good size.

I purchased this 8" rainmaker for my 1 year old for christmas after some pretty great reviews. I am pretty disappointed overall. Because of the size the small beads inside don't have very far to fall therefore making little noise. You actually have to shake the toy to get the rest to fall and it doesn't sound much like rain when you shake it. I also purchased the 16" for my little sister and I would definitely recommend that you purchase the larger one as they were only a couple dollars more.

My son liked this item alot when we first got it. It kept his attention quite a bit. He doesn't play with it much after 3 months, but isn't that the case with most toys and toddlers? It is fun to use with other instruments when listening to music.

I may enjoy playing with this more than my grandson will when I give it to him. It seemed like a good idea for him when I ordered it, but he has not seen it yet, and I am wondering whether, at one year old, he is already too old for it. It is entertaining to tip it and watch it and listen to it. Once you start, it is hard to stop! It does seem to me that it could have used something to grip it better with - a handle of some sort, perhaps. NOTE: IF YOU ARE PURCHASING THIS AS A GIFT, you should know that this arrived in a clear plastic wrap with no description (age appropriate, etc.) on it. You might want to print the description on this page and give it with the toy so parents get an idea of what the toy is all about - and whether or not it is considered safe for their child's age.

I LOVE this rain stick so much! I have twin 10 month olds and they just love the sound of it, rolling it around the floor, shaking it, singing songs with it (obviously I am doing the singing for now)!! Great toy/instrument and great for just singing songs and getting them interested in music

This rainmaker is really pretty and bright - wonderful visual stimulation for a young child or anyone with visual limitations that are stimulated by bright colors. The size is just right for a toddler or older to use independently. The sound, though pleasing, is not an authentic rain sound that you might get with a wooden rainmaker.

I was very hesitant to buy this toy because I knew the use would only last for 2-3 months with my young child. I've got 3 young kids, one in which was 5 months old at the time. SO I decided to rent it from Toygaroo.com instead. My 5 month old love the toy and she love just holding it in her hands. It was a very soothing toy with lots of color and gentle "rain" type sound. It always calmed her down. I rented the toy for only 1 months and sure enough by the end of the 1 month she was no longer interested in the toy. This is a great toy with a short playtime lifespan.

My 10 month old likes this, but I wish I would have bought the bigger one since the beads make it to the bottom so quickly with this little one.
