While I can't argue with Joanna Daneman's generic endorsement of teaching youngsters to play rhythm instruments, I have to wonder if she actually has experienced this specific product.

I have, and I can tell you that mine has a dull sound that instantly bored me and a couple of kids. I've tried numerous times to find the sweet spot, but I'm convinced there isn't one. This is the kind of beginner instrument that turns people away from further exploration in music.

I'm excited about this two-tone wood block because it will allow me to do a cappella activities in teaching that simply become more aurally interesting because of the two tones. For instance, Hickory Dickory becomes way more fun for me and the children with the block and a triangle. Thanks West Music for your effort in getting this to me in spite of some difficulty finding me.

I bought this item to keep in a bag of small percussion gadgets to hand out during social gatherings so the non musicians in the room would have something to play with and feel included.

The sound is actually decent, tough the 'mallet' isn't super heavy duty. Granted this item is made for kids, not really designed for adults who are enjoying themselves with fermented drinks.

All in all, if we had kids, I'd get it for them. As a party favor, it is also excellent.

I got this musical instrument for my granddaughter for Christmas. She played with it all day Christmas and is still enjoying it. She is so interested in music and making music, so, this was a perfect gift!!

I just got this today and the ETA was between the 14 and 19! I played with it while my son with his uncle (He just turned 1 but is very intelegent) and I can't wait to give it to him at his birthday party!!!

This wood block gives two distinct sounds depending on which side you hit. My only wish would be that the mallet was a little larger. For the very young it seems a little difficult to actually hit the wood block with the head of the mallet. But, it is a well made product and I would recommend it.

I have a great collection of musical instruments for kids and this one just adds to it!
