The hardshell case is fantastic, I can't believe they threw this in for free, as well as the tube extension. The keys are all very in tune! the keys play wonderfully, the actions is perfect. Very smooth. The volume depends on how many keys you play at once, if you play one note at a time its SUPER loud, if you play two notes at once its medium volume, any more than that and its very gentle and expressive. You can perform vibrato with some effort, but it might take some practice. You can only do it with breath. Having three octaves is a huge range, enough to pretty much play anything. The build is very sturdy, doesn't feel like a toy, it feels very professional.

I would definitely recommend this melodica to anyone interested in melodica!

I am a musician. I had read reviews on Amazon about the Hohner Performer 37 key Melodica. People said that it was a professional instrument with excellent and surprising volume. I had also read that just for the case alone it was worth the price. I agree that it comes in a lovely gig bag with a nice adjustable strap. Unfortunately, this instrument simply does not stay in tune. I've not played it very much and have only owned it for about 2 months, but it started going out of tune on the higher end almost immediately. Now after about 5 sessions of less than an hour with it, the top is horrible. The last thing that one would want is its admittedly high volume because it's de-tuning is all the more obvious. Pay a little more and get something that sounds good for more than a week.

I have a number of melodicas, including a few cheap Asian ones and two good ones. This is one of the good ones. I bought mine used at a significant discount off new, but even if I couldn't find a good used one I probably would have paid full price. This is a real, professional instrument, and anyone who wonders if you could actually gig with it should check out the videos of Donald Fagan playing Aja on his at YouTube. I use mine for casual jamming at home, and on some of my home recording tracks. You might think that a Midi keyboard could do everything a Melodica could do, but the range of expressiveness you can get from breath control on a Melodica is far beyond what you can do with a keyboard- and you can't easily play your Midi keyboard around a campfire. ;-)

I got this as a replacement for my old Hohner piano 26, and i noticed that the reeds are no where near the quality of Hohner's old Pianicas. My greatest complaint is that the highest A was terribly flat upon arrival, and i have yet to attempt surgery to sharpen it up.
As far as a practice melodica goes, this is a suitable instrument. You can tell that the reeds are cheap, but what can you expect from our world of cheap Chinese manufacturing. If your looking for a great deal, this is a good melodica to get some practice on, but if you are a serious performer i would be wary with this instrument. With instruments you get what you pay for, and this is no exception.
Pros: Nice case. Mouth piece and tube are versatile and good. Seems sturdy, key action is good. Great for practice and amateur performances.
Cons: Came with a flat A key, reeds sound cheap. Getting a response from the reeds takes more blowing pressure than previous melodicas that i have owned.

My son is a musician. Plays keyboards and organ for several big bands. He bought a Melodica a couple of years ago and on a trip to Australia it was stolen. I bought him a New one for Christmas ( not really sure if it was the best one to get). Well he loved it!!! Exclaimed " how did u know to buy the very best?" He played it all Christmas Day delighting everyone. So from someone who knows the very best in this instrument .... It was a home run!

My first performing melodica was the Hammond 44, a Cadillac among these instruments, so I was spoiled. When I could no longer tune a particular note on it, I needed a performance replacement for not a lot of money, and so I gave this a try. The most important thing for me was to have a tuned instrument, and upon receipt, this was (at442, like most melodicas). Its 37-key range is not as large as the 44-key Hammond, but the F3-F6 range is as close as one can get. Like all other melodicas now since the Hammond has been discontinued, there is no pickup. I am truly missing that; I am now shopping for a pickup, because playing into a mic is not the same. I appreciated not having much trouble adjusting to the size and feel of the keys, though It does feel more like a plastic toy. Performing with it has been a little frustrating sometimes when I am playing a line and more than an occasional note does not sound because I am blowing too hard - it happens more with this than it did with the Hammond; I am trying to accommodate my breath accordingly. The tone is brighter, not quite as warm as the Hammond; I am the only one noticing that among the folks I perform with. I have not yet tried to open this instrument to check out the innards. The spit valve is not quite at the end of the instrument; I do not seem to be eliminating as much moisture as I did with the Hammond, not sure what this is about yet. Overall, this instrument is doing the job I needed as a performing instrument, for a very reasonable price. But I am aiming to get a MyLodica next...
