5.0 out of 5 stars Say Bravo to Hola!, July 25, 2001

This review is from: Say Hola to Spanish (Paperback)
Do you need a book that will delight children from 5 to 13? "Say Hola! to Spanish" did exactly that for my students, from kindergarten through grade 8 - er, ocho. Children of all ages (and that includes this middle-aged teacher of Spanish) will delight to the likes of the following: "Your hair is your pelo, your nose is nariz. Your grandmother's pelo is probably gris." "Bread is called pan and cheeses are quesos. That's what we eat, but perros eat huesos." Learning foreign words could not be more fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars My niece loved this!, April 26, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Say Hola to Spanish (Paperback)
I had seen this book in the bookstore, but I had resisted buying it because it doesn't use the Spanish articles. However, after my niece kept repeating the 10-15 Spanish words she learned at school and from watching Dora the Explorer, I realized that this book would be great for her (and my sister/her mom who doesn't speak any Spanish). The first time I read it to her, she repeated every verse back to me--on her own, I did not ask her to do it. I think this will help her learn quite a few more Spanish words.

Say Hola to Spanish

By Susan Middleton Elya

Reading Level 1.3

Say Hola to Spanish teaches all the basic words in a dictionary (like table, horse, etc...). Once your young son/daughter reads this book. He/she will be sharing this book with friends and talking Spanish when she knows something he/she can say. This is a great book for birthday presents, presents for communions, and Christmas presents. This is a great book for children ages 4 to 6. If you would like to learn the basic Spanish this is the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ever Heard A Toddler Say "Hola!"?, December 13, 2000

This review is from: Say Hola to Spanish (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book for any bi-lingual (English/Spanish) parent wanting to expose their child to the Spanish language in a fun, gentle format. My daughter asks for "Hola" to be read to her and it is written in such a way that non-Spanish speakers (like the baby sitter, Grandma, Daddy, etc.) can read and correctly pronounce each Spanish word. I would highly recommend this for any child's book collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for Learning Vocabulary, November 27, 2005
By
Library Gaga (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Say Hola to Spanish (Paperback)
I immediately noticed the publisher of Say Hola to Spanish is Lee & Low, the prominent publisher of multicultural children's books. Also noted is the fact that this is the first book for both author and illustrator. As an introduction to simple Spanish words, this is excellent. A glossary and pronunciation guide to over seventy words come in handy when you're going through the pages.

Simple text is highlighted by representative illustrations:
"A dog is a perro, a cat is a gato.
You drink from a vaso, and eat from a plato."

I could imagine memorizing the entire, brief text and learning seventy Spanish words in short order. It has high informational value (I never realized `mosquito' is Spanish) and could bear to be read repeatedly, especially if you put the words to a tune.

The awkward, yet attractive illustrations are cartoon-like and colorful, along the lines of a Scooby-Doo cartoon, whom the dog character resembles.

This is a great selection for all ages interested in learning Spanish vocabulary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say Hola to Spanish!, November 12, 2000

This is the cutest book ever! In my high school Spanish class our teacher read it to us, and we all loved it so much that a few of us went out and bought it ourselves. It is my new favorite children's book. It has bright pictures that are really cute. They have their own style. There are cacti with hats, and ufos, in random places, it's so adorable. It also has a very catchy rhyme pattern, and it is a great way to introduce children to Spanish. I give this book my highest praise!

I found this book in the library and LOVED it for my 3 yr old. I'm buying this book and "...Otra Vez" in paperback for him. He loves it and since I'd really like to start him learning a second language early, this is perfect! The mixture of English and Spanish in rhyme makes it easy to understand and fun to read.

This book is an excellent introduction to spanish for kids. It intersperses english and spanish, so kids will stay "tuned in" to the book. The easy rhymes help hids learn and remember the spanish words, and the silly illustrations are engaging and reinforce the text. It's fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprelo!!!, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Say Hola to Spanish (Paperback)
Great book. Highly recommended! I bought this and also the Say Hola to Spanish(otra vez). The rhymes are great sticking in my 2 yr old son's head! He practically has this book memorized. Even when the translation isn't given one can guess through the wonderful drawings. There are some books I bought that I dread reading to my son, He is in that stage where he wants his stories read 10 times in a row!. But even I enjoy reading this book to my son over and over. A must have for helping the little ones learn a 2nd language.
