Ridiculously Slept on. 1995 Classic,
By ? "UnspokenHeard ?" (United Kingdom!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hold It Down (Audio CD)
Incase you don't know Das Efx" is made up of (2 Mc's) Skoob & Dray whom have both mastered two of the most original & influential styles ever to be heard by hiphop audiences, that would soon be admired and imitated over the years. When Das Efx made themselves known, with the critically acclaimed "dead serious" back in 1992, hiphop fans didn't know what hit 'em. " Rhyming with such amazing energy, enthusiasm and best of all the ability to compliment each other by exchanging lines back and forth, taking turns in the spotlight, Das Efx posess a style that is second to none. 3 Years after their debut, in the era of more rugged & rough-esque material, Das Efx step up to the plate and serve more than most heads could chew. The first thing to note about this album is that it is so dam consistent, there is not one filler on here! I can assure you! Consisting of 20 full tracks, with production from such legends as; DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Easy Mo Bee, Showbiz and more unknown but equally as outstanding producers; Solid Scheme, Kevin Geeda, Klark Kent & DJ Skratch any beat junkies will not go wanting with this album. It is amazing, how an album with such an outstanding lineup of producers didnt immediately get more recognition (but there you go). Now, the beats aren't the only superior factor of this album, the lyrics are just as good, with Skoob & Dray kickin' some of their best verses yet...staying consistent in all tracks making any pending doubts erased. Without a doubt, any fan of East Coast, Mid 90's, hardcore hiphop should have this in their collection already, as it is a genuine classic that still hasn't deserved the recognition it deserves. All I can say is if you are reading this, and you consider yourself to be a Hiphop fan, then check this album out as you may have found that special something that special album that you have been looking for. PEACE!!! (P.S. check out everything else by Das Efx, as it is all brilliant Early-Mid 90's material that needs to be recognised, except for the "How We Do" album as that is just an awful fall off in the new millenium)

Let me start by saying that I'm a huge Das Efx and Hit Squad fan. Das is definitely a very innovative group with crazy lyrical flows.
This album as a whole is good, but there is a good amount of lackluster tracks. I guess this is really just because the two albums before this one were just uncommonly good. On "Straight Up Sewaside", it was one hard hitting track after another. But on this album, we see a lot of tracks with overly-simple beats and monotonous rapping. It's kind of evident that Das Efx was fading a bit by this release. However, "40 and a Blunt", "Here We Go", "Dedicated" and "Alright" all feature amazing beats and vibrant rapping you can expect from Dray and Skoob. Definitely a great hip-hop album, just far from Das Efx's best.

Good album by Das EFX. I think that this album deserves 5/5 stars. The beats are real hiphop. Good vibes and gritty sounds. Good lyrics of course, the production is the best part probably. Real grimey hiphop beats with nice loops. Some of the tracks on here are STRAIGHT classics hands down. Definately pick this album up. My fav song is "Comin Thru". One of the illest beats EVER! Check this cd out no doubt, you wont be dissapointed.
My Top 5 Songs 1.No Diggedy 2.Real HipHop 3.Microphone Master 4.Hold It Down 5.Comin Thru

Classic Hip Hop,

This LP is about twice as good as I expected it to be, this one is slept on. Not a big fan of previous Das releases. If you like early to mid ninties style hip hop this album is probably for you. Represent the Real is probably the most slammin track I've ever heard KRS-ONE on, what a heater! On a side note 3 or 4 of the more average tracks could have been cut to make this a perfect release, but they don't really hurt either. You won't be disapointed by this release if your down for real hip hop!

DIGGEDY DAS,
This review is from: Hold It Down (Audio CD)
Yo let me tell you, if you were never in to das efx, you were missin up on some real hip hop. On Hold It Down they come way more hardcore than their previous albums. This album has some of the best hip hop producers at the time like easy mo bee, dj premier, scratch, and klark kent with solid beats. However when you listen to das efx, its their lyrical style that hooks you. They came out with this album when a lot of underground east coast m.c.s were comin out. But das efx stands out with an unforgettable image, and dope lyrics. You can't deny this album if you like hip hop.

In case you don't know this , you need to buy this because Das were one of the '90s best underground duos right up there with Dogg Pound and Mobb Deep. This is their masterpiece with beats by Primo, Pete Rock and DJ Clark Kent doin a joint called Dedication, my favorite. There's a reason why everybody gave this LP 5 stars, find out yourself.

slept on is an understatement. Not only the best Das Efx album, but one of my favorite albums EVER. Grimey, beats are sick ripped to pieces by dre n scoob. Hold it down has gotta be my favorite track, but they're all worth listening to over and over again. True hip hop fans who recognize lyrical skill will label this as a classic, while the rest will continue to sleep on this 95 masterpiece
