Format: Paperback
When Mural was just fourteen, his younger brother, Nathaniel, their sister, Rebecca and their mother were attacked by a bunch of Redcoats. They set the house on fire. Only Mural and Nate survived. Mural becomes obsessed with getting revenge. As Mural grew into a man, his thirst never died. The only thing that did clam Mural down was when he met his wife, Veronica. She was the love of his life...till she left him for another man. After Veronica left Mural, he snapped and went on a killing spree, targeting cheating women.

One night Mural is visited by a demon. He bestows a gift upon Mural. All Mural has to do is stay alive and he will be reunited with Veronica again. As everyone else around Mural dies, Mural starts to grow weary of his gift. He longs to rid himself of the gift. He gives the gift away to a man named Randy. It isn't long after that Mural regrets his decision and wants his gift back. A chase ensures and it will be a fight to the death, where only the strong will survive.

I didn't realize how much I actually would enjoy this book, till I started reading it. It was dark and had some gruesome parts. Just the way I like my thrillers. Mural had this very dark, menacing side to him but on the same hand, he was also a very tortured and lost soul. Mr. Sherwood brought good depth and dimension to Mural. I had had one issue with this book and that the story started in the present but when it switched to the past, the switch wasn't that smooth. At first I didn't catch that the story had took me back to the past and I had to read the passage over again to figure out what had happened. Overall Holding the Light is a good book. Just beware when the lights go out as anything can happen.

From the moment I started reading this book, I was captured. I am a romance and trashy novel type of girl and "Hold the Light" is far from that as I took a moment to step out of my comfort zone, I am so glad that I did. I was on pins and needles throughout the entire read as this page-turning book tells a story that toggles between both present and past tense. As one reviewer stated the author starts in the present then proceeds to tell the story from the past but by the end of the book, I began to see the light as the story became clear.

Lost souls, death, and this so-called "gift", are certainly not topics that I would find myself engrossed in............however, Mr. Sherwood has certainly caught my interest with "Hold the Light", and I am looking forward to reading his other books.

Way to go Mr. Sherwood.............Very good read.

More About the Author

You've found your spot for dark fantasy/horror/magic realism lit. No sparkling here, just splattering.

"This, the first in a series, is seriously good...this is an immaculately presented, well constructed story, but most importantly it is a hugely entertaining read." - Truth About Books

HOLD THE LIGHT: Once you are Death, you can do anything but live.

Come find a lineage of unlucky souls' fates twisted into living as reapers, from the American Revolutionary War to the 1990's Boston.
"...Sherwood's novel is both ambitious and offers an original take on the age-old 'Grim Reaper' theology..." - Truth About Books

I'm a big fan of zombies, comic books, horror, dark sci-fi & fantasy and even literature (can be darker than horror!), as you will see in my books. Yet, I want to help keep genre fiction honest and create stories that build something new and challenging to concepts, not just rehashing someones good idea from a century ago.

Fun side fact: I designed all my book covers and website, as I am a visual/web designer by day and author (ok, maybe sleeper too) by night. Best time to write dark fantasy/horror books probably is the night anyway. You tell me - share your opinion with me and especially with others!

Look below and try the Revenants prequel "Before the Watch" for under $1. You'll dig it.
