Kaempfert's best album!, July 21, 2003
This review is from: Hold Me / World We Know (Audio CD)
Often sighted on BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME lists, "Hold Me" perfectly defines "the Kaempfert sound." Although not his best selling album to date, it is hands down Bert at his most irresistable and satisfying. The first few notes of the opening title track lure you in and surround you in luxury. Other appealing standards like "Hold Back The Dawn" and "It's The Talk Of The Town" get definative treatment from Bert. And Kaempfert originals like the playful "Pussy Footin'" and the romantic "Lady" illustrate his unique abilities as a tunesmith, a talent that is sadly absent from the current contempory songwriting culture. Like McCartney, Bacharach, and Manilow after him, Kaempfert's music is still fresh; it simply does not have an expiration date! The additional album The World We Knew is not as fully realized, but does feature killer versions of "You Are My Sunshine" and another Kaempfert original, the Sinatra hit "The World We Knew." How did we survive the 80's and 90's without this stuff on cd?

My God, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Hold Me / World We Know (Audio CD)
Hold Me is my favorite Kaempfert album (i've heard every one - about 40 were made over a 20 yr period) - the classic 'bullet shots' from the brass section , the great trumpet solos... Every number is great. The World We Knew isn't in the same class however - It has 3 or 4 real good numbers, then tapers off somewhat, although the band is at peak form I would rank this as a 3.5 out 5 These were his band's greatest years

typical Bert sound, June 27, 2011
This review is from: Hold Me / World We Know (Audio CD)
Classic Bert sound. Not his best but close to. I ordered it out of curiosity, never heard of it before and I must admit it is a lucky buy. Some songs are cover and some are Bert own songs. All in all, well worth the price. I am a fan of Bert, so I am also biased, but I know I am in good company
