Short And Sweeeeeet..., February 11, 2005
I hate when great CD's don't last long in terms of running time. This is one of those CD's. A great sound that clocks in at just 34 minutes. But I enjoy the short time I have with Name Taken when I listen to the album.
I can't say there is anything ground breaking about this album. It's your standard band set up and standard rock and roll. But they find a melody for ever song that I really enjoy.
The sound quality of the album is perfect. I am a drummer myself, so I pay attention to that the most, and it sounds crisp, and live.
I love the singer too. I'm not an expert when it comes to singing, I'm far from a vocal coach - but the singer gives me the sense that he's very passionate about what he's singing. It doesn't sound as if he's yelling to be loud, or to give some hard rock vocal sound. It really does feel like he's caught up in the emotion of the song, and the volume that comes from him voice reflects that.
Each song has that kind of rhythm, not just in terms of tempo, but in terms of the overall feel of the song itself, that you can picture an entire floor of an audience jumping in time, and the lyrics give you the image of that audience singing along with the words too.
The reason for the 4/5 star review is I wish there was more on this CD. They certainly seem like they have the potential to release more material. And if it's true that he's that passionate about the songs, it would seem only natural to me that he has a plethora of ideas and stories he wants to get out there. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next album.

Good, But Forgetable., July 30, 2004
I've read all these Name Taken reviews, and bascially everybody given them a 5 star rating. And i know people are going to discredit my review because everybody else has given it 5 stars. Yes, Name Taken record is a good effort, but i feel its something that can be forgetable really quick. This is because, i think that even though some songs are brillant, on the other hand, some of the songs are nothing but fillers. Alot of the songs sound the same, with singing patterns being bent a hundread different ways. I had hoped that they had put in 'Someone' and 'Safety Of Routine', but they didn't. Having said that, they are some top notch songs here. Such as 'Control', 'Hold on for Your Dearest Life', 'Panic', 'This Was Never', 'Cover Up', and 'It Sounded Prettier In Spanish'. But do check them out, the are sure to come out with something stunning in the future.
