4.0 out of 5 stars Short And Sweeeeeet...
I hate when great CD's don't last long in terms of running time. This is one of those CD's. A great sound that clocks in at just 34 minutes. But I enjoy the short time I have with Name Taken when I listen to the album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Forgetable.
I've read all these Name Taken reviews, and bascially everybody given them a 5 star rating. And i know people are going to discredit my review because everybody else has given it 5 stars. Yes, Name Taken record is a good effort, but i feel its something that can be forgetable really quick. This is because, i think that even though some songs are brillant, on the other...

I hate when great CD's don't last long in terms of running time. This is one of those CD's. A great sound that clocks in at just 34 minutes. But I enjoy the short time I have with Name Taken when I listen to the album.

I can't say there is anything ground breaking about this album. It's your standard band set up and standard rock and roll. But they find a melody for ever song that I really enjoy.

The sound quality of the album is perfect. I am a drummer myself, so I pay attention to that the most, and it sounds crisp, and live.

I love the singer too. I'm not an expert when it comes to singing, I'm far from a vocal coach - but the singer gives me the sense that he's very passionate about what he's singing. It doesn't sound as if he's yelling to be loud, or to give some hard rock vocal sound. It really does feel like he's caught up in the emotion of the song, and the volume that comes from him voice reflects that.

Each song has that kind of rhythm, not just in terms of tempo, but in terms of the overall feel of the song itself, that you can picture an entire floor of an audience jumping in time, and the lyrics give you the image of that audience singing along with the words too.

The reason for the 4/5 star review is I wish there was more on this CD. They certainly seem like they have the potential to release more material. And if it's true that he's that passionate about the songs, it would seem only natural to me that he has a plethora of ideas and stories he wants to get out there. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next album.

I've read all these Name Taken reviews, and bascially everybody given them a 5 star rating. And i know people are going to discredit my review because everybody else has given it 5 stars. Yes, Name Taken record is a good effort, but i feel its something that can be forgetable really quick. This is because, i think that even though some songs are brillant, on the other hand, some of the songs are nothing but fillers. Alot of the songs sound the same, with singing patterns being bent a hundread different ways. I had hoped that they had put in 'Someone' and 'Safety Of Routine', but they didn't. Having said that, they are some top notch songs here. Such as 'Control', 'Hold on for Your Dearest Life', 'Panic', 'This Was Never', 'Cover Up', and 'It Sounded Prettier In Spanish'. But do check them out, the are sure to come out with something stunning in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Getting the Recognition They Deserve, June 19, 2004
This review is from: Hold on (Audio CD)
Name Taken is finally beginning to catch on more. Name Taken should've taken off the second after The Stupid Chad was written in my opinion, but anyway... Name Taken has it all. Good vocals, talented drumming and guitar, and an aray of potential sounds. Name Taken is definitely worth some attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome awesome awesome.., May 4, 2004

What can i say.. i like alot of bands and alot of albums (and hate alot too) but when an album like this hits me i just gotta write a review... I knew about name taken alittle back in the day (songs like magnolia, safety of routine) and i heard they got signed to fiddler and were gettin an album so i figured i'd eventually check them out cause they were one of my fav bands. so anyway I went to Skate and Surf up in asbury park nj (NJ REPRESENT) and Fiddler was promotin the album like crazy so i had to buy it.. i finally got around to listening to it a week after the concert (had to get thru the 40 other cds and samplers) and was amazed. this is one of those cds that grows on you with each listen, even if the first listen you hated it. each song is pretty good. my favorites would be Hold on for Your Dearest Life, Year Spent Cold, Cover Up, and Drive Drive Drive. but its a pretty solid album and a good debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on..., May 3, 2004

I firt found of name taken by there older songs like "for sunday" "new song" and "magnolia" songs like that... when i heard the new cd was comming out i was extremely excited. i preorderd it and have been listening to it since then... at first i like their old stuff better but then it grew on me a lot... my favorites are "control" "clear and conscious" and "hold on for your dearest life" the cd itself has a more mellow feel than the older name taken (wich i though was kinda skate punk, what do i know?) but it still has parts when you want to just stand up and sing as loud as you can... I strongly recomend this album, especially if you liked the old name taken. the band is also very good live, in my oppinion. i drove 6 hours just to see them it was worth it... buy the album and then thankyourself for it later!!!

The First time i heard Name Taken was when my friend gave me a mix of all sorts of Punk Rock, Emo, and Screamo stuff. I heard the song "This was Never", and from then on i've loved this band. They are a really good band and if you like soft punk rock/ Emo you will love this album. Other tracks to check out are "We Give Up Sometimes".

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD I've heard...., April 15, 2005
This review is from: Hold on (Audio CD)
This is seriously the best CD I've heard. I play this CD every single day in my car. I even blast Name Taken on my work's stereo. I don't think I'll ever get tired of them...

As far as some songs being fillers... Whatever to that. They all are good.

This is one band I tell all my friends about. I tell strangers to buy their album, haha!
