Editorial Reviews

Wells was regularly selling out Los Angeles clubs like the House of Blues, The Viper Room, Troubadour and The El Rey Theatre and people in the music business were taking notice. Now signed to Universal Republic Records, Tyrone is touring full-time and his infectious, soulful voice and undeniable songs are being introduced to people all over the country. Wells said, "Whether I'm in a coffee-shop down the street or on a national tour, I'm grateful to be doing what I love."

Every so often I will rediscover a song and be amazed that I didn't love it so much before, which just means I am constantly re-falling in love with this CD.

The first cut on this CD, "What are we fighting for" was what I heard first on a local indie channel here. I was interested enough to check it out on iTunes. Big surprise, I liked most of the cuts and ordered the whole CD from Amazon.

"What are we fighting for" is pretty self explanatory, but this up-beat anti-war anthem deserves more than just another chalk mark towards artists who are weighing in for peace. The ending gospel chorus "I had a dream.." will get you up singing.

There've been a lot of songs about loving someone the way they are, but Wells takes that theme and re-addresses it one more time with "Baby Don't You Change". It's still about a pretty face, but it's a strong love ballad and if I were a guy, I'd add this to my 'get out of trouble with the girlfriend' playlist.

"Jealous Man" is about a man behind bars warnings others away from his girl. He's got two things to tell you about his girl, "one, leave her alone" and "two, leave her alone." This one's just plain hair-raising.

"Looking at her Face" compares a lover's face to a sunset and it's just glorious. This is a sweet love ballad and almost a shock after "Jealous Man."

Yes, this is a wide variety of well-done music and it's very much worth listening to. Give Tyrone Wells a listen. He's hard to categorize, but well worth the time to hear.

This is a great CD. Its a tasteful mix of soul, rock, and folk - imagine if Jack Johnson and Lenny Kravitz had a baby. I'm new to Tyrone and his style is definitely refreshing.

I have been going to see Tyrone play locally in California now for about 3 years in coffee shops, in the busy walkway of a local outdoor mall, and in venues with 2000 people. No matter where he plays he gives the same amount of passion in every performance. He is an extremely talented and gifted singer and songwriter. I, and many of his fans, have seen him blossum into a bon-a-fide star. Mark my words, he will be big.
Now, this cd is his first on a major label, but you can buy his prior cds and dvd at his shows.
Buy this cd and you will discover a great new artist who will blow your socks off with his incredible voice, songwriting, and passion. His music is a combination of soul, rock, pop, and folk. It is hard to classify, but he just simply sounds great. He is also one of the nicest human beings I have ever met. [...] Buy it, you won't be sorry.

"Need"? Probably one of the best songs in the world. And who doesn't love "Sea Breeze?" Maybe someone without a heart.

My goodness, this album has really saved me.
Tyrone's uplifting words and theme throughout this album have given me a new road to follow, one where I know I can do and dream and love. As a fellow singer-songwriter, this album is the one, out of countless songwriters I have listened to, that I draw the most inspiration from.
Incorporating dramatic buildups, killer vocals, bluesy guitar, and over-the-top percussion, it all wraps together in a finely-crafted masterpiece, one I prefer over Remain and Wood&Steel. Tyrone Wells is a songwriter who can truly change a life through lyrics.
The one track that I am heads-over-heels in love with is the title track, "Hold On". With such lines as "hold me close and hold me near//breath assurance in my ear" and "the only thing I know for sure//is you are mine and I am yours", the listener must take a deep breath and just appreciate the magic Tyrone brings to this world.
I know that if I write a song a tenth as good as anything on this album, I will be satisfied.

I work in MTV in Santa Monica. Universal set up a showcase for the network, it was like 11am and this guy blew me away! (mind you we get many showcases at MTV, i.e. Blue October, Rocco Deluca) He performed purely acoustic IN A CONFERENCE ROOM, with no mic and Marc his percussionist on his woodbox. He has soul and a plain and clear understanding of how to perform live. If you dig singer-songwriter lyrics, with soulful personality, pick up his CD and catch him live while he's still free at one of his college shows. Its 12/7/06, I'll be suprised if he is not Pop mainstream within 3 years.
