Great new artist!,

I was excited to buy this cd after seeing the video for "Homecoming" on Fuse. Once I got it, I wasn't at all disappointed. All the songs on the cd are just as good as that one, and some are better. It's rare to see a female-fronted band in this genre (Paramore's the only other I know of...love them!), and as a girl, I can relate better when the songs are from a girl's point of view. My favorite tracks are "How You Love Me Now", "Homecoming", "Josey", and "Arizona". I hope this band gets more exposure and goes far!

This Album is a break from the normal pop scene. Backed with strong vocals and creative lyrics that often transcend the teen years this Album delivers.

IMPRESSIVE!!!,

An easy comparison would be Paramore, but really, these guys (and girl) have a MUCH better powerpop sensibility. Either you have it or you don't, and the Mondays (can't help but think of "Office Space", haha, or Happy Mondays) sure as hell do.First off, Cassadee has one of the sweetest, most impressive girlpop voices I've ever heard, and I've been listening to music for over 35 years. And the tunes resonate, they have amazing choruses, and their guitars have a nice mix of crunch & shimmer. In reality, the Mondays are closer to KILLERsweet girl-fronted powerpop bands like Letters To Cleo and Damone, even the Muffs, Bangles & Go Gos, and they could also appeal to the Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato crowd...this is a good thing folks. They seem like a fun band live, with zero attitude. Steve's show had the "Homecoming" vidclip, and the Mondays had me at hello, and I wanted to hear more, so I bought HOT...I was more than impressed. I just wish it came out earlier in the year, not the tail-end, so it would have made my 2008 best-of list...the single did tho, and I might have to cheat on my upcoming 2009 lists to squeeze this in. Oh, another 2 fave tunes are the Butch Walker cowrite "How You Love Me Now" and the amazing "Arizona"...are the Mondays from AZ??? If they are, cool, they will have to hang with my boys Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers. This rekkid is so chock-full of great potential singles and hits that it's positively scary. I can def see the Mondays dominating 2009...good on Pete Wentz for signing HM early to his label and Rick Rubin & the rest of Columbia for hopping on board later.

A lot of people say this sounds like Paramore. All i have to say is Cassadee Pope has a way better natural singing voice than Hayley Williams and the music isnt as mopey as Paramore. They may not have as many songs produced, but I can tell this band is going to rise fast.

Female fronted bands, as we all know good and well by now, are not rare. Also, becoming increasingly not rare, is finding a good one. Hey Monday is one of those bands.I saw one reviewer label Hey Monday a, quote, "Paramore 2.0". I don't agree with that sentiment, I would call them more of a girlier version of Damone before putting them in the same league as Paramore. I say girlier because Cassadee, well, IS girlier. As for everything else, kinda fits the overall Damone mood. Hey Monday isn't really breaking new ground, all they're doing is going with the flow. The lyrics aren't amazing, the music isn't that impressive, and the vocals--minus a few standout moments--aren't incredible. HOWEVER! This isn't all bad. They are good at what they do, and they do it well. Every song is enjoyable so you can easily listen to the album in its entirety. And, by God, is this fun to listen to. Hold On Tight is one of those oft-talked about easy to pick up and listen to CDs. It's mainstream, not complicated in the least, and easy to listen to and pick out favorites. My favorites? Set Off, lead off single How You Love Me Now, Homecoming, Candles, Hurricane Streets, Should've Tried Harder, and 6 Months. That's right folks! 7 of the 11 songs are great. The ones I didn't include are decent as well, though more times than not just make you think of Avril Lavigne throw-aways. Of the 7 songs I really enjoy, Candles, Hurricane Streets and 6 Months are the ones that truly separate themselves from the pack. These are the songs that offer the most variety in terms of music and vocals. All in all, you can do far worse than Hey Monday. I know I'll be keeping an eye on them. Who knows, maybe if they fully flesh out their music and Cassadee works on varying her voice a bit more often, they could eventually end up in Paramore's league. Recommended.

Hold on Tight to Hey Monday's Album,

I first heard hey monday on the citizensforourbetterment mixtape, and i was blow away by the snippit of "homecoming" it was incredibly catchy and in general awsome. i couldnt wait to buy the album. i mainly bought the album for homecoming and to just check them out, i wasnt expecting anything big. i was sure surprised when i heard this albumthe lead singer, cassadee pope, has a beutiful voice that rivals gretta sapler and hayley williams's voices. iveheard some say that hey monday is the new paramore. thats a load of crap. they are compleatly differant and better than paramore. anyway, my current favorite i obvious. its a cute song, notso deep lyricly, but i find myself entranced by the sound. [voice and instraments] tracks i reccomend- ALL of them!!! every. single. track. is musical genious, prom the lyrics to the music. basicly, this album is amazing and youre really missing out if you dont have it yet.

Girl punk at its finest!,

This CD is amazing! I'd never heard of Hey monday before, until I saw them at a show with The Academy Is, We the Kings, and Carolina Liar. Sadly I missed most of Hey Monday's set - I only heard about 2 songs, but the ones I DID hear were really catchy so when I went home later, I downloaded "How you love me now". I'm not sure what other bands they sound like.. I could say Metric, but actually only like "Combat baby".I normally don't like girl PUNK.. I either like really poppy stuff like Ashlee Simpson, or more folksy / ballad-y stuff like Rilo Kiley or Maria Taylor. However, I was totally blown away by this album! Every single song is REALLY good - I don't skip any, and they all sound like they could be hits! If you're looking for a very fun, catchy, loud, girl rock CD to blast, I would definitely recommend this. It's pretty low on the chill ballads (only the last song and "Candles"). My faves would be: How you love me now, Obvious, Hurricane streets, and 6 months. I'd say that "How you love me now" is definitely the catchiest of the 11 tracks, and I'd recommend you to download that one. If you like it, you'll love the CD! I was shocked to find a song even better than that one - my favourite track: "Hurricane streets"! - 5 stars with a bullet!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!One of the best bands I've heard in a long time. Look for these guys on the charts! Almost every song should be a hit. Also, go see them in concert if you get the chance. I seen them in Denver with We The Kings,The Acadamy Is, and Carolina Liar. And they put on an excellent show!!

not a bad album, but a bit generic.,

Just as an FYI - I'm sure I'm not the target audience, being in my late 20's, so maybe it's my fault for really not loving it. I don't recall where I first heard hey monday, but I thought it was worth checking out after hearing "how you love me now". I'm not extremely picky when it comes to fun power pop when I'm in the mood for it, but honestly, besides that one track, "homecoming" and "candles" the rest of the album struck me as generic, a bit kiddie, and did not hold my attention. I could not differentiate between the remaining tracks for the most part.I think the singer's vocals are great, nothing is noticeably wrong. The arrangements are just more typical then I was hoping for. I don't think this will be a band where I can hear a new song and know that it's them without question. Maybe they just need time to develop. Like most, I saw the comparison to Paramore without anyone else mentioning it. The style, genre, age and the fact that there is only one girl. But I find Paramore's albums from start to finish amazing. They have a mix of fun pop with a dash of haunting and depth. I think Hey Monday would probably be great for someone younger who just loves to sing along and isn't looking for anything too particular. |
