I like this album a great deal, and find it to be an overall stronger and more mature collection than FIREHOUSE, their debut album. Although this one doesn't have as many of the big hits (Love of a Lifetime, Don't Treat me Bad, and All She Wrote), it does have the great Top 10 ballad "When I look into your eyes" (These guys have always had a great touch with the ballads). Anyways, besides that hit, you'll also find several other great songs, including the rocking opener "Reach for the Sky", and my favorite song on the album, the "Sleeping with You", a goofy, rocking ode to getting some action. If you're a Firehouse fan, this is a definite must-own. As for new fans, you might want to go with the debut first, as it has most of the big hits, but FIREHOUSE, HOLD YOUR FIRE, and their new album CATAGORY 5 are the definite purchases for any Firehouse fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 80's Feel Good Record August 13, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I love this CD! A great collection of fun, feel-good, singalong songs that you're sure to like if you want to listen to something other than the doom and gloom "I hate my parents and my life sucks and I'm such a victim so feel sorry for me, boo hoo hoo" that has dominated most records released in the last 15 years. This is definitely NOT one of those records!

First the bad news. I'd give this release 5 stars if it weren't for the 2 filler songs, Sleeping with You and Life in the Real World, both of which seem out of place. The only other downside to this record is the ballad When I Look Into Your Eyes. While this song isn't bad it's a little too sappy for my taste.

The good news is that rest of the record is just awesome! Reach For the Sky and Rock You Tonight are the heaviest songs and great rocking 80s-style anthems. Except for Hold the Dream, the rest of the record is fun and upbeat with songs that will lift your spirits and that you just can't help but sing along to.

Hold the dream is a more melow inspiration song but sounds good and is still enjoyable.

All-in-all, a solid release. While it has a couple of weak songs, the rest of the record is certainly worth the price. Detractors always criticize this style of music as immature and cheesy because it isn't "serious" and doesn't make social or political statements. That's exactly what I like about this record! If you're not in the mood to contemplate the meaning of life or lick the wounds of your victimness, then you can't go wrong with Hold Your Fire!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold Your Fire is a must-have for any Firehouse fan!! January 13, 2006

Format:Audio CD
After 14 years, this album is still getting rotation in my cd player. I love the speed of "Reach for the Sky" and it's catchy rhythms. My favoirte song from this album would have to be "When I Look Into Your Eyes" and "Hold The Dream". I like the song "Sleeping with you". Firehouse delivered another successful album and another top five single with "When I look into your Eyes". This is a great album and a must-have for any Firehouse fan!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good follow-up......... January 18, 2003
By Elite
Format:Audio CD
With their first CD (self-titled), Firehouse showed they can hang with the rest of the big hard-rock bands of their day. Now, could they avoid the 'sophomore slump'? Well, yes & no. This CD is much heavier than their debut, but not necessarily better. The first single ("Reach For The Sky") is pretty good. And it has the (what has become a usual with this band) super-ballad ("When I Look Into Your Eyes") and some really good tunes otherwise. It's just not as good a CD as their first one, overall. I really like "Sleeping With You". It's kinda cheesy, but just a catchy & fun tune. "You're Too Bad" reminds me of a couple women that I have met in my day. "Rock You Tonight" & "The Meaning Of Love" are also really good tunes. The rest are pretty much (and I hate using this word) filler. But, just really good filler. If you liked their first CD, you will probably like this one, as well. It's just not as good. Maybe because the band wasn't new anymore. I don't know. But, it's definately worth owning if you are a fan of this kind of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars If You Pursue Heavy Side Of Their Rock--Buy It! October 15, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Hold Your Fire is basically a hard rock album and you might feel a bit heavy if your first encounter with them is 3 or Category 5.
This album is packed with hard but not without pop rock feel My favorite is Sleeping With You and When I Look Into Your Eyes.
If you like this album maybe you will love their latest release O2--comeback of their early rock style and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid second album March 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
1992's Hold Your Fire was the second album from Firehouse, one of the last "hair metal" bands to enjoy major popularity in the early 90's. Firehouse, along with bands like Slaughter and Steelheart had a more polished and non-threatening approach than the Sunset Strip rockers, and it paid off big time.

Side note - I bought this the summer I graduated high school and had this album in heavy rotation with Faith No More's Angel Dust and the "black" Metallica album. It seems crazy now, but at the time I didn't think twice about calling all three "metal."

Anyway, Hold Your Fire wasn't quite as popular as the first Firehouse album, but I think it's a stronger album overall. The songs are still 80's cheese, but they're better written and the musicianship seems a bit tighter. The hits on this album are the rocking opener "Reach for the Sky" and the sappy ballad "When I Look Into Your Eyes" (that one makes me want to gouge my own eyes out), but the album's best songs are the upbeat party rockers "Hold Your Fire" and "Life In the Real World" as well as the slow but epic "Hold the Dream." Yeah, there's some filler too, but there are more good songs than bad.

It's dated and it's cheesy, but I still love it. If you're a child of the 80's and aren't ashamed of the whole "hair metal" scene, you really need to pick up a copy of Hold Your Fire. Amazingly enough, the album is still in print and available at a bargain price.
