5.0 out of 5 stars Great release with good bonus extended versions August 24, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great release of the full album with additional extended versions and remixes. The full length Tom Moulton mix of Double Cross is a welcome inclusion along with the Larry Levan Mix but the Original Tee Scott Mix of Love Thang is the one that still stands the test of time.

The David Morales and Danny Tenaglia mixes of Love Thang and Double Cross sound a little dated and lose a lot of the original's soul....still... nice to see them getting a release.

Full track listing is as follows:

1. Let Me Down Easy - 6.35
2. Good Morning Midnight - 3.55
3. Great Expectations - 5.37
4. Hold Your Horses - 5.48
5. Love Thang (Album version) - 5.39
6. Double Cross (Album version) - 6.57
7. Love Thang (David Morales Mix) - 8.17
8. Double Cross (Tom Moulton Mix) - 10.03
9. Love Thang (Original Tee Scott Mix) - 7.55
10. Double Cross (Danny Tanaglia Mix) - 7.45
11. Double Cross (Larry Levan Mix) - 7.19

These Unidisc releases of the original Salsoul albums are great especially considering they all have bonus tracks that weren't on the original release (obviously as some of them are more recent remixes).

It's hard to tell on Amazon if they are the Unidisc releases when you're searching however they all seem to be listed at the same price of $17.44..... hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Late 70's Disco Perfection October 17, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First Choice’s “Hold Your Horses”, released in 1979, was the group’s second album for the Salsoul Distributed Gold Star label. Rochelle Fleming and company follow up 1977’s solid “Delusions” with an even more solid and sophisticated set consisting of highly musical and catchy Disco and R&B. The entire album is tailor made for the dance floors and fill the dance floors it did. Title track and “Double Crossed” became Disco staples and receive club play to this day. Both are solid and catchy Disco gems. “Love Thang”, “Let Me Down Easy”, “Good Morning Midnight” and particularly “Great Expectations” are not far behind and all were popular at Discos across America in 1979.

Big Thanks to Big Break Records for giving this gem the re-master treatment that it so richly deserves. As always with any BBR re-master, the sound is great, the liner notes are fascinating and contain a brand new interview with Rochelle Fleming. The original glamorous album cover art front and back is preserved. There are also 7 bonus tracks here. “Now That I’ve Thrown It All Away” was recorded for this album but was left off the final product. The lost track is now restored and it’s a great find. “Love Thang” is presented here in its Disco 12” Version. “Double Cross” is a further bonus track presented here in no less then three very rare 12” Disco Versions. “Let No Man Put Us Under” from “Delusions” is another generous Bonus track here in yet another re-mix. The title track is also presented here in its single version as additional Bonus material. A treasure for any R&B collector.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great original LP & reissue September 21, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a non-stop uptempo disco classic from early 1979, the peak of disco. The six original songs, primarily the title track, "Love Thang", and "Double Cross", are all excellent. These songs have been getting a lot of play on Sirius XM's Studio 54 station, and deservedly so. The opening beat to "Hold Your Horses" is especially enjoyable as it mimics the sound of a galloping horse.

I wish I knew for sure the line following the triple-chant of the title to "Hold Your Horses". The only site I could find taking a stab at the lyrics says it's "Don't keep falling for your head", but that just doesn't sound right. I was hoping the liner notes, which are otherwise extensive and well-written, would tell me, especially since they start off wondering what the song means. (I can tell what it means, as can Frankie Goes To Hollywood.)

Bonus tracks abound: the 7" single of HYH, which crosses the finish line in under 3 minutes, THREE 12" mixes of "Double Cross", and one each of "Love Thang", and non-LP cuts "Let No Man Put Asunder" and "Now That I've Thrown it All Away".

Liner notes include input from lead singer Rochelle Fleming. This is a good one that won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Album! October 5, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This album is a blast. There's no ballads to get in the way of the grooves. There's slower funk like "Love Thang" and then you get the songs that really do gallop, especially "Hold Your Horses." (The gallop pun was intended.) You even get a bit of theatrical drama with "Great Expectations." Lots of melody and character and the Ladies never sounded better. Dive in to this one, folks. You'll love it.
