Book Description

October 30, 2000
This book profiles work/life initiatives involving a broad range of industries and kinds of work and workers--from white-collar professionals to assembly-line pizza packers, from call-center customer service representatives to government employees. The report offers business, union, and public policy leaders concrete strategies and practical guidelines for creating a work environment that supports both work/life balance and business. In the companies studied, work/life initiatives are no longer viewed as employee perks, but more as strategic business tools linked to core corporate objectives, such as customer satisfaction, leadership development, and teamwork.

The report includes ten case studies. The companies featured are: Bank of America, Baxter Healthcare, Eli Lilly & Company, Ernst & Young, First Tennessee Bank, Hewlett-Packard/Agilent, Kraft Foods, Merck & Company, Fleet Financial, and Statistics Canada.
