Just finished this book and loved it! When I first began the story there was so much pain the character was experiencing, I wasn't sure if I could go on. The descriptions the author uses to convey everyday emotions that we all experience was soul-touching. You could feel it in your stomach as you read.

THEN as I began to see the story unfold, the reality of the need to face the hurts in our own lives head-on became clear. The author has captured one woman's story that shows redemption from past hurts as not only possible but amazingly redeeming! This is a must-read!

"Holding On" explores the depths of a mother's love and the strength inherent in a woman's heart. Enjoy romance, humor, and intense family drama all rolled up into one satisfying story. ~from the book description

Finally! A book I can happily give 5 stars! If you pick up this book to read, make sure you have nothing planned for a while. Luckily, I had already cooked supper before I started this book, or my family would not have eaten.

From the first page, this book grabs you and does not let go. You feel this mother's pain and terror at being given the worst possible news any mother can ever hear. The character's were so well developed, I wanted to reach through the pages and hug Danielle, and I fell in love with her little boy. I could taste the salt of the ocean, I sat with her in the hospital, and my heart raced in fear with every obstacle she encountered. My main considerations when rating a book are the ability to put it down, and how invested I am in the lives of the characters. I read this book from cover to cover, without pause, then went to bed and woke up thinking about the characters.

(Slight spoiler alert) The author tackles a few tough subjects: first, a parent's worst fear of something happening to your child. She does a great service to parents everywhere who have encountered such an event by touching on things such as hospital bills, work vs staying by your child's side, and the ever present fear despite having to put on a brave face for your child. She also tackles the issue of someone being hurt by abuse and perversion of religion. This is handled as well as the first issue, holding nothing back of the scarring and wounding it causes, as well as how difficult it is to overcome.

It has been a long time sing I read a book that affected me so much. I cannot believe one reviewer said this book did not hold her interest. I started this book last night, and finished it this afternoon, without putting it down for 10 minutes.

This is a heart wrenching story, so keep a box of tissues by your side. The author skillfully takes you through emotional roller coaster after roller coaster. It is well written (only one typo and one sentence that was a bit awkward)

While the plot is somewhat familiar--trials of a sick child, tribulations of a single mother, some romance, and a happy ending--- what the author does with it is amazing. There is a very light undercurrent of religion, but it is not overdone. Some books make you feel like the author is beating you over the head with religious themes, the religious themes of the book really take a back seat to this heartwarming story.

It deals with so many of life's issues, and does it well.

Sure you know the ending before it ends, but I did not care...The emotions I experienced reading this book were worth it...I never had a better time spending the day crying :-).

It is such an enjoyable way to enlighten yourself on Leukemia and deal with other troubling issues such as parental abuse and also donate to a worthy cause.

There are so many issues confronted and Danielle's growth through it all was a nice reminder that you can face and deal with the problems of life.

Well worth the read...this book should be selling for much more on the kindle edition (although I did get it for free during a limited offer)...The author is donating 1/2 the proceeds of the book to worthy causes in children health organizations, so DO buy the book.

I bought this book because of the price and the wonderful reviews. It drew me in from the first word, and it kept me there 'till the end. If you are busy, don't start this book. It will not let you go. It is so refreshing to read something with such depth of feeling and emotion, without the profanity and ugliness. Thank you, Lisa Mills, for a wonderful read! I have just become your newest fan.
