The truth about leaving holes in time,
This review is from: Holes in Time Autobiography of a Gangster (Paperback)
I was surprised to read that this book was still in print; at the least, available though Amazon.com. You see I knew Frank Constatino many years ago. Actuallly, I came to know the man who inspired the book, Craig Marlette, before I met Frank.
Craig managed a "coffee house" in Orlando, FL, that I frequented in the early 80's. As a matter of fact, I met my wife there. And it was through Craig that I would also meet Frank when he opened a half-way house for men being released from prison. I became a part of that ministry for a few months prior to my marriage. I forget about the details of Craig's inspiration, I believe it came from a song that he wrote, but that title took hold of me and remains as vivid, some thirty years later. I was about to write an article on forgiveness when I recalled the phrase and hurried to these pages to see if anyone even remembered the book. The idea in Craig's mind, I believe, is if you do not contribute to life while you are active, you will only be leaving "holes in time" when you depart. This, I believe, is at the heart of the message Jesus taught while walking among us. We tend to emphasize that He was adamant about our need to love one another, but most of us who have spent a significant portion of our lives, learning to love, eventually come to the realization that it is in the day to day, every day, mundane activities of life that we finally learn how to love. And more often we point to the important people in our lives as examples of love, whereas this book will reveal the fact, even the worst among us came become our best teachers. Certainly, both Craig and Frank who spent many agonizing hours behind bars, learned about real life in facilities most of us will never even visit. What impressed me about the two and the reason I whole heartedly encourage everyone to read the book, is the fact, they chose to turn their lives around and leave, not holes in time, but real contributions to the every day affairs of the common man.
