Fans of Sleepy Jackson will love this!, February 4, 2005
This review is from: Holes in the Valley (Audio CD)
"Nations by the River" is a side project for Luke Steele (lead singer and creative force behind the Sleepy Jackson) together with a couple of members from another Aussie band: Gelbison. The result is a beautiful collection of joyful country/folk songs backed by lush musicianship from all involved.
Make no mistake though, Luke Steele's influence and musical style is stamped all over this production. So although only a side-project, the creative talents of this amazing artist shine through and make it a very enjoyable album - especially if you have already discovered the joys of The Sleepy Jackson masterpiece "Lovers" and want more.
Favourite song: "Would it be nice" - take a moment to listen to the sample, and you can hear that this delightful track could have easily slotted onto the "Lovers" CD, as could many of the others.
I would highly recommend this CD - even if you have to pay a few extra dollars for an import copy. You will be rewarded with a unique and very enjoyable piece of music.

Track 7 is not the right Track, March 5, 2008
This album is pretty good, but track 7 "Kid's World" is not a Nations by the River song. I've already complained and suggested that they remove it, but no one has done anything about it. You'll notice that the original song is much shorter than the one available to download. What they have here is a classical piece that sounds a little like Aaron Copland...which is nice, but not what I ordered.
