3.0 out of 5 stars Some very catchy cuts.
The songs capture the spirit of the movie, which was very entertaining. Best cuts are by the D-Tent Boys ("Dig It"), Shaggy and Devin Thompson. Most of the rest is just okay.

With a twistful delight of rap to set the new-age theme, along with some good fashioned alternative rock, and some country music to set the settings of the movie. As I see here, Amazon does not have the song list, so for those wondering, this is the song list provided from Disney.com (Holes.com)--

1. D Tent Boys - "Dig It"
2. Shaggy - "Keepin' It Real"
3. Eels - "Mighty Fine Blues"
4. Moby - "Honey"
5. Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps - "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday"
6. Keb' Mo - "Just Like You"
7. Pepe Deluxe - "Everybody Pass Me By"
8. Stephanie Bentley - "I Will Survive"
9. North Mississippi All-Stars - "Shake 'Em Down"
10. Eagle-Eye Cherry - "Don't Give Up"
11. Chicago Catz (Richard Davis) - "Happy Dayz"
12. Dr.John - "Let's Make A Better World"
13. Fiction Plane - "If Only"
14. Eels - "Eyes Down"
15. Little Axe - "Down In The Valley"

For once, Disney put together a really good soundtrack with a variety of music tastes, and big-name artists, and, the lesser-known ones.

I bought this to entertain my two kids (under age 10), but I find myself putting it on when we're racing to get ready for school or when I'm faced with making dinner AGAIN or when I want to get the kids moving on the weekend. It's lively and fun! I'm not at all sure I would buy the individual artists' music, but the compilation of these songs is really outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars really good!, April 28, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is soooo good. I got it for my birthday yesterday and I have already listened to it at least 4 times. The only song I don't like is number 4 "Honey." But all the other songs were really good. I especially like number 1 "Dig it," 3 "Mighty Fine Blues," 8 "I Will Survive," 13 "If Only," and 14 "Eyes Down." Number 13 is also the song that is in the book, which makes it even better. If you like the book and/or the movie then I suggest that you get this soundtrack. You'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best sountrack!, June 7, 2003
By
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
I saw the movie 5 times and I have read the book many times so of course I loved the soundtrack too. There are so many good songs on this cd, definetly one of the best disney soundtracks!
I love almmost all of the songs:
1.Dig It, D-tent boys-very good song, sung by some of thecast of Holes
2.Keepin It real, Shaggy-this is also a good song but it takes some time to get to know the words
3.Mighty Fine Blues, Eels- This song is pretty good
4.Honey, Moby- an ok song, but it kind of gets annoying after a while
5. I'm Gonna Be a Wheel someday, Teresa James and the Rhythm Tramps-Kind of strange but fun to sing along with
6.Just Like You, Keb Mo-Slow and sappy don't really like it
7.Everybody Pass Me By, Pepe Deluxe-Weird and kind of annoying
8.I will survive, Stephanie Bentley-Best song, by far
9.Shake Em on Down, North Mississippi All Stars-ok
10.Don't Give Up, Eagle Eye Cherry- I like it a lot
11.Happy Dayz, Devin Thompson- Probably the worst song on the album
12.Let's Make a Better world, Dr. John-Pretty good
13.If Only, Fiction Plane- song from the book, really good
14.Eyes Down, Eels-Really good
15.Down to the Valley, Little Axe-good, but long
Aside from a couple bad songs, this soundtrack is the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Surprisingly Good Soundtrack from Disney!, June 25, 2003
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
Normally I don't like soundtracks to Disney movies, but this is an exception! It's great and everyone I know is buying it!

01. D-Tent Boys - Dig It -- How can you not love this song? I was jumping with joy when I finally heard the full version of this, and it just gets better and better everytime I hear it. Easily one of the best on the whole CD. 7/5!

02. Shaggy - Keep'n It Real -- I've never been a big fan of Shaggy, but this song is nice. I don't listen to it much, but I'll gladly listen to it when I have to. 3.5/5

03. Eels - Mighty Fine Blues -- I love this song! I don't know what it is about it, but I can't get enough of this song! My family really likes this one too, which is a surprise, since they normally don't like the kind of music that I do! 5/5

04. Moby - Honey -- This is okay, I normally skip over it, because it constanly repeats the same thing over and over again, and it irritates me. The music is nice, but it gets annoying after a while. 3/5

05. Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps - I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday -- Very nice song! One of my favorites on this soundtrack! 4/5

06. Keb' Mo' - Just Like You -- This is really pretty. It's not one of my favorites, but like "Keep'n It Real", I'll glaldy listen to it when I have to.

07. Pepe Deluxe - Everybody Pass Me By -- Another favorite! I love this song! The music is really nice, and I like the "blurry"-like vocals. 6/5

08. Stephanie Bentley - I Will Survive -- This was an instant favorite. I absolutely love this one! I love the guitars. 5/5

09. North Mississippi All-Stars - Shake 'Em on Down -- This is good, but it's not one that I listen to alot. I don't know why, honestly. But it's still good! 3.5/5

10. Eagly-Eye Cherry - Don't Give Up -- Again, this one is good, but it's not one that I listen to alot. I really like the music in this one. 4/5

11. Devin Thompson - Happy Dayz -- I LOVE this song! The music, the vocals and words, I love them all! I can never skip this one over, I have to listen to it at every chance that I get! 6/5

12. Dr. John - Let's Make a Better World -- I don't really like this one much. It's okay, but I normally skip over this one. 3/5

13. Fiction Plane - If Only -- Again, how can you not love this song? It's a great song, even if they did change the words in the chorus a bit. I love the way Fiction Plane sang this one! 5/5

14. Eels - Eyes Down -- This was the first song that made me really want to buy this soundtrack! (After hearing it in the trailer) It's still one that I love! 5/5

15. Little Axe - Down to the Valley - Oh lordy! This one is possibly my second favorite on this CD! I don't know why, but I love this song so much! Although they basically repeat the same thing over and over again (a thing that I complained about on song #4), this time it doesn't irritate me. All my friends like this one too.

This is in my list of Top 5 CDs! I can never get enough of this soundtrack! It's great, just like the movie, and I recommend it to everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Musical Styles, June 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
Got the CD for my 7 year old son after we had read the book and seen the movie. But I've been listening to it for days as I drive around town. I think it's a great introduction for young (and older) listeners to a variety of musical styles- rap, blues, folk, pop, rock, country. The book, movie and soundtrack all have a very positive message and complement each other well. I recommend the book to read to your kids as a bed time story, and while there are some challenging themes (racial bigotry/tolerance, corrupt authority figures), they are handled well. And the book introduces young readers to some literary devices they will appreciate later. And, since this is a CD review, the CD is very enjoyable. (My 7 yr old wanted to give it 5 stars; I'd give it 4 1/2.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone, in the best possible way, November 4, 2003
By
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
If you've got kids, imagine playing this CD to get everyone racing around, cleaning house (as we do). Totally fun.

If you have friends, imagine an impromptu sort-of Electric Slide that springs up while listening to "Dig It" (as we experienced). Totally fun.

If you've got quiet time, imagine having a cup of tea while listening to "Feeling Mighty Fine" (as I have).

Totally fun.

It's probably overstating things to say that I can't remember life before this CD, but boy, am I glad our family discovered it!

5.0 out of 5 stars So worth your money, April 25, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Holes (Audio CD)
This album was unusually good. You don't come across an album like this very often. 'Dig It' is my favorite song...I listen to it all the time. Literally. I don't think there is such a thing as not liking this sound-track. If you enjoyed the movie (which everybody I know who saw it did) then you will definetly love this CD. It is worth every penny.
