Holiday Collection is IMMACULATELY Awesome!, May 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Holiday Collection (Phantom) (Audio CD)
Without a doubt, this CD is fantastic! Complete with the supposedly "forgotten" Immaculate Collection tracks, it simply swings! Holiday is the original version, not the shortened, watered down Immaculate Collection version! In my opinion, the best wersion yet. True Blue is a beautiful track of sheer joy and fun. Written in the days of the Sean Penn marriage, I'd imagine it was written about him! Who's That Girl...why, it's a Madonna classic! A latin track that feels much like La Isla Bonita. Note: Listen carefully right before Madonna sings "run faster" in the first verse; you'll here 'Murray the Cougar' from the movie "Who's That Girl" growl in the background! Causin' A Commotion is one of the ultimate Madonna dance tracks and is one of my personal favorties! On this sampler, it is slightly remixed and made better by new keyboard and guitar arrangements. Also, it is a little shorter than the original version, clocking in at 4:06. All in all a great dance number!! In conclusion, if you buy the Immaculate Collection, pick this one up too! It's a wonderful companion and no Madonna fan should be without it!!

Madonna collectors, this is for you!, August 16, 2000
This review is from: Holiday Collection (Phantom) (Audio CD)
Madonna fans, this is a must. You probably have these songs already, but the brilliant jewel case is a must have. The cover pic is basically "The Immaculate Collection" done in maroon. It's more eye catching then the original. Then, on the back you have you have a shoulder cutoff of Madonna looking very hot in short blonde hair. This was around the time of Blond Ambition. In the jacket, there are four headshots of Madonna in different looks like "Who's That Girl" and "Vogue". There are very bright pics. The next picture is of Madonna in a very exotic bikini. One of the sexiest photos of her ever. Oh yeah, and the music. "Holiday" is not the "Immaculate" edit but the full "Madonna" version. "True Blue" is the original girl group fun. It sounds a lot like Donna Summer's stab at the genre she did in '77 called "Back In Love Again", but a cuter race for love on Madonna's behalf and lesser vocal quality but more of a pop edge. "Who's That Girl" is the original as well with it's spicy pop ballad with mixed languages. Simple and one of her best. "Causin' A Commotion" is excellent do to the fact that it's a remix with a cleaner keyboard arrangement. These are the missed hits off of "Immaculate Collection" for the most part untouched (if not improved). You still have some essential hits missing form both albums together, but this is a good compromise and again, the album will be a collector's paradise. Fans, trust me you'll love it.

REMIXED AND RE-INCLUDED!, November 18, 2005
This review is from: Holiday Collection (Phantom) (Audio CD)
For Madonna fans who missed some songs from her first greatest hits compilation, this is a rare gem. It included the full version of "Holiday," and album versions of "True Blue" and "Who's That Girl." These are title tracks from her albums of 1986 and 1987. The bonus here is the single remix version of "Causing a Commotion" not available anyhwere. It arguably sounds better than the original single version.
Madonna complemented her Immaculate Collection by releasing this compilation.
However, she could have included at least two or three more tracks to truly complete her IC and these songs may be "Keep It Together" "Burning Up" "Everybody" or "Dress You Up/Angel."
Whatever the reason may be, your Madonna collection is not complete without "The Holiday Collection."
long live the queen!
