Book Description

December 9, 2008
When visiting New York City based GLADSTONE MAGAZINE key executives were saying "good night" to their huge, annual LA Christmas Party, full of lively, happy advertiser guests, they had little reason to believe their company would imminently be up for sale. Set in three cities - NY, LA and DC - the HOLIDAY PARTY is an intriguing, fictional story of what transpires when a benevolent, family owned major national magazine publishing company is taken over by a giant media conglomerate. The takeover of GLADSTONE MAGAZINE by the publicly traded Ballard Media Group is strongly engineered by two members of a sophisticated Manhattan Wicca practicing coven. Though the takeover people in the story soon change the name of the acquired company's annual Christmas Party to that of the Holiday Party, to be politically correct, the figurative paint job they do isn't enough to cover the havoc and chaos they bring to the lives of the people whose strong efforts have ironically made it a prime takeover target. The readers of THE HOLIDAY PARTY will find it to be a gripping, contemporary, fictional drama.

More About the Author

Richard Wanderer, Esq. has worked in the publishing field in New York City and Los Angeles for more than 30 years. In fact, he worked with the real MAD MEN of Madison Avenue. This included employment with major national magazines such as Family Circle, Esquire, The Saturday Evening Post, and Playboy. Richard also worked for major newspaper chains in
multiple capacities including public relations, publicity and primarily advertising sales.

Later in life, while working full time in publishing and raising a family, Richard attended law school. Upon graduating and passing the Bar Exam he became a member of the California Bar. He received an award from the California Bar for his pro bono work. He met his wife when both worked for Esquire in New York City and they now have two grown daughters, and at this point, one son-in-law.

Considered an authority on the American magazine industry, Richard was invited to write an op-ed piece on the survival of magazines in America for the prestigious Bulldog Reporter. It can be seen on their website as it appeared on 6/25/09.

His suspense novel, The Holiday Party (A Tale of a Corporate Takeover) centers on a fictitious tale of what happens to the lives of employees whose companies fall victim to corporate takeovers.

When I first saw this book, I thought: "A Tale of a Corporate Takeover? Why would I care about that?"

I didn't expect much from this, until I started reading.

Vivid descriptions, interesting characters, and a very exciting plot.

From the very first page, this book grabs your attention...

Who's the guy in the horned mask?

Who are all these wiccans, and why do they keep on taking their clothes off?

What does any of this have to do with a Holiday Party or a Corporate Takeover?

Richard Wanderer has woven quite a tale in this book... I suggest you take a look.

keep smiling,

Benjamin

I bought several of these books as holiday gifts because of the tile and everyone of them enjoyed it as did I. If you like advertising, witches and $itches and Madison Avenue, you will really get into it too. Also, anyone who is watching "Mad Men", the series about the Golden Age of advertising, will really like this too.Mad Men: Season 2Mad Men - Season One

5.0 out of 5 stars The Seedy Side of the Publishing Business, April 1, 2009
This review is from: The Holiday Party: (A Tale of a Corporate Takeover) (Paperback)
This is a book that explores the inner workings of the publishing business. You've got sex, skullduggery, double crossing executives, money, witches (yes, witches), and a once great Christmas party gone bad.

Hey, what more could you possibly want?
