A brilliant new book from one of America's best, January 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Holiday (Phoenix Poets) (Paperback)
Susan Hahn's poetic voice has always been intense and original, but with her new book, Holiday, she has surpassed even herself. This is one of the few books of poetry in years of reading contemporary American poetry that I could not put down and have returned to many times over. A brilliant book from a remarkable mind.

Great new book from one of our best poets, December 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Holiday (Phoenix Poets) (Paperback)
There is a fervor in this collection, as if the poet herself was lost in a trance when she wrote them. One gets the impression the sequence was written in rapid succession. The language is tight in this collection and more sure of itself than in previous collections by Hahn. She seems to get better with each book, which seems to be an anomaly in contemporary poetry. The opening poem in this collection is quite striking, and each successive poem lives up to that opening. Hahn takes various holidays and opens them up by pulling at the various mythologies and notions the holidays have buried within them, within their very names. A beautiful collection.
