A Good Christmas Movie That Is Based On A Book!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Holiday to Remember (DVD)
I love Christmas Movies and I also love to read romance books and this movie is based on a Christmas themed romance book called A Christmas Love by Kathleen Creighton though the title of the movie was changed to A Holiday to Remember. I have the book this movie was based on but haven't read it yet but I did peek at a couple of pages in the book and it looks like Carolyn and Clay didn't know each other in the book until they were adults but they changed it in this movie that they had known each other in their past and were getting married after they had finished high school but she jilted him and left him standing at the alter. Though I didn't read the book except to peek at a couple of pages and I can't really compare them I can say that the movie was good and the acting was very good especially from Connie Sellecca, Randy Travis and Rue McClannahan. The movie is about a recently divorced woman named Carolyn played by Connie Sellecca who takes her teenage daughter and moves from California back to the small Southern town she grew up in, the town she hasn't been back to since she jilted her fiance Clay at the alter and when she gets there she runs into Clay played by Randy Travis and his aunt Leona played by Rue McClannahan, a character unlike the character Blanche she played on The Golden Girls but more like a combination of Rose, Sophia and Dorothy, a down homey type like Rose but feisty like Sophia and wise like Dorothy but the only resemblance between Leona and Blanche is the southern accents. This is good movie!

A Holiday to Remember must be one of the best Christmas movies made. It's a well written story and a well made movie. The actors did a good job. The children are well 'played'. The town situation well chosen. A great movie.
As a writer I would love to see one of my novels made into a TV movie with the same care and know how!! Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Need a warm cozy movie to bring out the real meaning of Christmas? Family, love, charity and some fresh baked pies...this is the movie for you. I watch it several times every year and never tire of its warmth and charm. Randy Travis and Connie Selleca spark some nice chemistry together and Rue McClanahan is a down-home pro. The kids are great too and so is the dog!

the fairy tale of ever lasting love... Very nice! I've given four stars because I think the character of little William, although sweet and well acted, but he is really too good to be true. No child, living on the streets, expresses himself in that way and certainly no such child can be transformed so easily. You can argue, of course, that there is no reality in the story of the couple either. Right. But - don't we all say silly and irrealistic things when we are in love? Or don't we all wish, Mr. Right would wait for us forever, no matter how much we've hurt him? Yes, we do. So that is a different matter. But- never mind, don't think too much about it! Just make a large hot cup of cocoa, lean back and enjoy it, because that's what X-mas movies are made for. By the way, I enjoyed the character of the mather very much.

It's very hard to find Christmas movies these days that aren't full of commercialism, Santa Claus or even ones that don't make you cry. This is a very light, cheesy movie but just the thing to get you in the Christmas Spirit. We love Christmas and love to watch Christmas movies that are just fun.

I bought this movie just to see what the fuss was all about. After watching it, i decided it was one of the best Christmas movies ever made.
The performances by all the actors were superb. Randy Travis has become a pretty decent actor considering he is country music singer. Rue McClanahan does about the best job. She really steps out the character she played in The Little Match Girl. She is one versatile actor. The plot is almost predictable and at times just a little far fetched. But, who cares, it's a movie and it does leave you with that feel good all over feeling when you're done watching. I see this movie has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I am sure someone will pick it up again for next season. Be on the look out for it and get yourself a copy. It's well worth it! |
