Fantastic Holiday Fun!, November 26, 2007
It's been a while since I've read a really good romance. I've been on the lookout for something that's well written, fun and something I can sink my teeth into (pun intended).
So it was with a great amount of joy that I found Holiday with a Vampire! It's composed of two novellas by two of my favourite romance authors. Maureen Child is an incredible writer and her novel Eternally was fantastic. Caridad Pineiro, author of the amazing Calling vampire series, has quickly become one of my absolute faves and is on my automatic buy list, no matter what she writes.
Child's contribution is Christmas Cravings and concerns Grayson Stone, a vampire still punishing himself for the death of his family every Christmas. Pineiro's offering, Fate Calls, concerns Connie Morales who is swept off her feet by a handsome vampire who thinks he has no soul.
The two stories compliment each other so well and they are the perfect holiday treat. I tried to take my time reading it but, having picked it up yesterday afternoon and finishing it last night, I'm already on my second read.
Holiday with a Vampire is perhaps the best romance book I've read in ages. It's fresh, fun and you can feel the Christmas cheer coming in waves from the books pages.
If you buy yourself one holiday treat this winter, make sure it's Holiday with a Vampire!

Eh, not so much..., November 28, 2009
My friend, who is also in my book club decided to be a smart ass and chose this book for our December book. We usually try to pick something holiday-ish. So yeah, we read a vampire romance. I actually wasn't going to read it because romance is so totally not my thing, but I decided to be a good sport and read it. So yeah, I read this kind of under duress.
Both stories are short and easy to read, I read the whole book in an afternoon.
The first story had some promise. Until the author just decided "eh, let's end it... right... oh, I don't know... here". Um. What? She built this great back story with all these great places to go and then met her word count and shut it all down.
The second one was just okay too. I guess if you are into vampire romance, you'd like it, but the whole blood and sex thing just doesn't do it for me. Plus, vampires are always described as being cold and/or hard as a statue. I dunno about you ladies, but I really don't want to cuddle up to a marble cold statue all night. Gimme a squishy real man anytime (one that doesn't bite is just a bonus).
Any way, if you are into vampire romances, this is for you, I suppose. It was very reasonably priced on the kindle, so maybe worth a read. And for extra fun, this seems to be a series, with 2 more books after it. I think I will be skipping it though.
