Four years ago I was pregnant with my third child and found Randall Neustaedter's book about vaccines at a local store. I bought it and have been a huge fan of his work since then. I have referred many to his website and some of my friends have had huge "Ah ha!" moments as a result.

Proponents of alternative medicine can be fear-based and condescending, acting as if giving your child antibiotics or formula is going to kill them. I'm no fan of either, but if parents do choose to use them they shouldn't be made to feel ashamed or afraid. It will suffice to simply inform them of the possible consequences without judgment, as this author does.

Dr. Neustaedter does a wonderful job of teaching how and why holistic medicine may very well give parents better results. I also appreciated his brief lesson on the origins of homeopathy and Chinese medicine. His writing has enabled me to examine my own beliefs (I gave up my war on germs) and develop the confidence to respect and support the immune system instead of trying to take over its job with drugs. It's been very liberating. When my young children are sick, I'm no longer fearful. I know how to support them with herbs, supplements and good nutrition while they heal themselves.

Parents are flooded with advice from all around to medicate for fevers and go to the doctor for every little thing. So a doctor gives you a prescription for steroid cream for your child's eczema, or an antibiotic for that ear infection, but if you don't address the cause, what good is that? It would be so helpful to offer a different perspective that doesn't undermine confidence in the miraculous ability of the body to heal without medical intervention. Every parent should have a copy of this book to help counterbalance all those conventional influences. The best parent is an informed parent.

This review is from: The Holistic Baby Guide: Alternative Care for Common Health Problems (The New Harbinger Whole-Body Healing Series) (Paperback)
Whether it's your first child or fourth, this book contains all you need to know to get on and stay on the right track with your new infant. Our son is now 13mths old and he just had his "FIRST" cold, nothing major lasted only 3 days and any non family member would not even have known he was sick, no fussing, & barely any visible signs. (runny nose)Homeopathy is a sure winner when you have children. I'm so happy that our pediatrician who is a Homeopathic practitioner & MD recommended this book, it's a Great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Love this Book!, August 9, 2011

I love this book and have found it very useful for the natural way I am raising my baby. I am a massage practitioner and aspiring herbalist and the information is right up my alley.
It helps me to know I can take charge of my babies health and be proactive. He gives helpful information about homeopathy, chinese herbs and nutritional supplements and common childhood illnesses that the common pediatrician would never know to recommend. I only wish that he was in Seattle so I could take my babies to him. Definitely recommend it for anyone who wants healthier children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, April 28, 2011

This review is from: The Holistic Baby Guide: Alternative Care for Common Health Problems (The New Harbinger Whole-Body Healing Series) (Paperback)
This is a good book, with great information, I wish it was a little more in-depth and had more remedies or helpful ideas for things like teething, but over all it's well written. It's also handy to have right there all in one book instead of scouring the internet for answers.
