5.0 out of 5 stars From Zero to Hero in 144 pages flat!
What can I say, we race a NASCAR Street Stock bomber and we were a solid "B" main car, We were untouchable in the "B" Mains but we just couldn't make the transitition to the "A" Main. Until I boned up on some Holley tuning tips in this book, now we are an "A" Main runner weekly, we've made it as far up as a fourth place finish...

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely useless
I bought this book thinking it would teach me how to super tune and modify a holley carb. It does not. This book includes a history of Holley carbs, some old photos, some weak humor, and that's about it. There is not much tech in this book at all. There are some general, not very accurate, guidelines to follow when selecting a carb for your application (which can all...

What can I say, we race a NASCAR Street Stock bomber and we were a solid "B" main car, We were untouchable in the "B" Mains but we just couldn't make the transitition to the "A" Main. Until I boned up on some Holley tuning tips in this book, now we are an "A" Main runner weekly, we've made it as far up as a fourth place finish! Now that we have the carb under control we are fine tuning our suspension for our new found power and we are improving weekly! I HIGHLY recomend this book for ALL racers and car enthusiasts alike!

4.0 out of 5 stars How to tune a Holley., June 2, 2006
This book includes information on how to select a carb, how each metering system works, mileage, street, race, off-road, marine and forced induction modifications and copious part numbers. The correct process is described to fix any problem, but most final numbers(70 or 72 main jet? 35 or 37 pump squirter? Etc) are determined by road or strip testing. Also includes exploded diagrams and a 54 picture teardown and reassembly of the 4150/4160.

I had no idea how many tuning possibilities there were on a Holley. I've learned that it is likely to take a fair amount of work to get a double pumper to run smoothly, get decent gas mileage, and produce power on the street. However it is possible and this book tells you how. Expect to invest in a jet kit, accelerator pump kit, and some drilling if you put a double pumper on your street car.

I bought this book thinking it would teach me how to super tune and modify a holley carb. It does not. This book includes a history of Holley carbs, some old photos, some weak humor, and that's about it. There is not much tech in this book at all. There are some general, not very accurate, guidelines to follow when selecting a carb for your application (which can all be had for FREE by calling the Holley Tech line), and lots and lots of examples of what NOT TO DO, but that isn't helpful either. However, for someone trying to put together a carbed combination for a street car or a weekend racer, there is next to no useful information in this book, and there is none that isn't available elsewhere. Waste of time. Waste of money.

Ironically, there is more useful tech applicable to Holley carbs in "How to Tune and Win with Demon Carburetors" by Ray Bohacz that Amazon also sells. I'm not joking, its a good book, even if you have a Holley rather than a Demon.

Book is great for the history of holley carbs. But not so great for rebuilding your average holley carb. To much info on "high-tech" holley carbs. I bought this book thinking it would help me rebuild and tune my 600 cfm holley carb. But all I did was waste my money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Super Tuning and Modifying Holley Carburetors, September 25, 2008
S-a Design's "Holley Carburetors" is great for part numbers and identification. It also is very helpful in the identifying the function of the parts. As far as 'super tuning and modifying', this book is of little or no help. I was unfortunately looking for assistance and found no help here!

2.0 out of 5 stars No help here for a rebuild., October 8, 2005
Look elsewere for a guide to help you rebuild. I guess this book would be useful if you are a racer or something, but not for the DIY engine tinker-er.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Emanuel - Carb Super Genius, April 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Informative and to the point, though the first chapter on the history of carburetors is not really required for a technical book. Found the theory of operation especially helpful as a foundation for the specific operation of Holley carbs- or any for that matter. Very easy to read and understand. It's not a have-it-on-the-fender book like a Chilton's, but if you're looking for a good primer on how your Holley operates before tearing into it- it's worth the money. Will likely pay for itself in avoiding unnecessary upgrades. Also sections for race and high performance tuning. Lot's of good, sensible advice from someone that's been doing carb tuning for a long time and can transfer the knowledge through clear writing and illustrations.

Excellent overview of the Holley carbs and the inner workings as well as tuning of the Holley. Would liked to have read more on the performance side.

Don't listen to everyone giving bad reviews, this book is perfect. Gives all the information you need, and really explains how the carbs work. I have recommended it to many people
