Crisis' third album beautifully showcases the band's artistic growth. Although I love both earlier albums ("8 Convulsions" and "Deathshead Extermination" -- and, in fact, "Deathshead" is my favorite) I feel that this album is their best to date. Karyn's lyrics have achieved a new sophistication which had been absent previously, and her fury unfurls even more effectively through them. The band has honed its talents for unusual, unsettling arrangements and bone-crunching guitars. As a female metal musician myself, I can honestly say that in a world dominated by testosterone-driven metal, Crisis is without comparison, and a most welcome addition. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars crisis is a must own for fans of good music, January 7, 2003

i am not sure what to classify this album as. For those who may not know crisis, karyn crisis is the singer and she can both sing and scream which she does plenty of both for this record. the music is in the death/black metal vein. i think her voice is so beautiful when she sings in that low almost whisper like tone yet she is very powerful when she screams. the music is super heavy and dark. guitars are tuned low which i especially like. the music pushes and pulls you, is fast and furious yet sometimes subtle and atmospheric in a somber metal way that i adore. my favorites are track 2, in the shadow of the sun and track 5, kingodoms end. buy this album now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Karyn Crisis still rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, October 4, 1998
This review is from: Hollowing (Audio CD)
If you read my review of "deathshead" you know how I feel about this band. The Hallowing is a departure. It is as good, but more introspective, more poetic, and check out the artwork. Ms. Crisis does all of the artwork on this and all other Crisis releases. She is the goddess of extreme music. Her talent is in her raw courage. I love Karyn Crisis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Album by an Incredible Band, March 22, 2007

When it comes to quality songwriting from a metal band, it hardly gets better than Crisis. It is truly a pity that this band never managed to attain the notoriety that it deserves. Forget the fact that Karyn Crisis is hands-down the best female metal vocalist to exist, this band is so good it hurts without needing to latch on the novelty of having a female singer, the way substandard bands like Kittie do. Crisis is amazing and if you're a metal fan you owe it to yourself to buy ANY record from Crisis. This one, however, is my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Karyn Crisis still keeps it Heavy, May 15, 2002

This CD expresses Karyn's darker and more melancholy side, but it still has it's beautifully unique hard edge, and Karyn's banshee-esque screams and howls will send waves of shivers slicing through your spine. Don't hesitate one second to buy this masterpiece.
