5.0 out of 5 stars Leaves me wanting MORE asap!
I first heard Justin Nozuka in the car on Sirius radio's Coffeehouse station - and immediately started saying his name over and over to myself so I wouldn't forget it when I got home. That one listen to "After Tonight" on Sirius was enough for me to get the CD as quickly as I could.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, in small doses
I really liked his sound at first, which is why I downloaded the album. The music sounded very fresh, clean, creative and reminded me a bit of Jason Mraz when he first came out.
However, I'm sad to say that after listening through about 1/2 of the album, I started finding it somewhat repetitive and not as clever as I had originally thought. Good music, but not...

I first heard Justin Nozuka in the car on Sirius radio's Coffeehouse station - and immediately started saying his name over and over to myself so I wouldn't forget it when I got home. That one listen to "After Tonight" on Sirius was enough for me to get the CD as quickly as I could.

I was NOT disappointed. In fact, I've been listening to it more than anything else since it arrived.

A great mix of uptempo, bluesy tracks and thought-provoking sultry ones makes for what I consider a perfect CD. Justin's voice is smooth and he makes it all sound effortless with such control and feeling I lose myself to the songs. Some of my favorites:

Track #2, Golden Train - a feel good rhythm, it's hard to sit still, lyrics that make me smile everytime!

Track #3, Be Back Soon - LOVE this track's bluesy ache, seductive proclaimations!

Track #6, After Tonight - this one got me hooked as I noted above but it really only scratches the surface of what this CD has to offer.

Track #7, Criminal - more bluesy energy, yet it's got the components to be a great hit. It seems like the kind of song that a pub full of friends would sing along to while dancing in their chairs, finding it impossible not to move and feel alive.

Track #10, Save Him - will tear your heart out. A dark story yet sung with such feeling, emotion, conviction - I don't know what you'd call it, but perhaps one of the greatest things about music is that it can make you FEEL, and Justin Nozuka is at the top of my list of reasons to love music.

As I'm listening to the CD while writing this review, I'm having a hard time leaving out any songs as "favorites" - nearly any commentary for the songs above applies to the rest of the CD. Rarely is there a CD that doesn't have me skipping at least one track, but these all get LOTS of play in my car, my house, and my iPod.

I hope there is more where this came from, Justin!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD - Impressed with the new blues sounds - very new and original, February 29, 2008
This review is from: Holly (Audio CD)
I caught the song "After Tonight" on Sirius' Coffee House station and it really caught my attention... so I downloaded the one song and listed a few more times, then I had to get the rest of the album with my fingers crossed it wasn't just another 1-hit-wonder... well the gamble paid off. this kids got real talent. it's very original, blues style, has a feel of Justin Timberlake's funky sound but more on an acoustic level. I was very impressed, criminal and be back soon are more great tracks. can't go wrong with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soulfully Satisfying!, March 24, 2010

I saw a small part of a concert Justin did on DirectTV's channel 101 free concert series and was left wanting to hear more. This CD was soulfully satisfying to the highest level and I was glad I searched it out. Heart felt blues worthy of someone way beyond his short years. Great pick for someone looking for more than the Top 40 pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest new artist, April 24, 2009

I saw him first on DirecTV's The 101 in concert and was blown away. I was really sick and couldn't concentrate on a TV show cause I was so miserable so I stopped on music and it just totally relaxed me. My husband said who is that? So I had to find out, we both loved it. Now I listen to it on my CD or watch the concert in the background all the time. Got a copy for each of my family members - who loved it. My parents even called from the car on a road trip and said "Wow, this is great music you sent us" They thought it sounded from "way back" in "thier time" and couldn't believe his age. He connects to everyone, with every single song. A cross between uplifting hang out music and heartwrenching blues (if you listen to the words - a couple of songs just rip your heart out-in a good way) Absolutely Amazing, very hard to find sound. I've been waiting for my bluesy/rock Clark brothers to come out with thier album and needed a good, very talented, bluesy fix and Justin Nozuka was just what I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Bluesy, August 24, 2008
This review is from: Holly (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Justin Nozuka's music by way of VH1. I saw the video for 'After Tonight' more times than I can count, and though at first I wasn't very fond of it, the song grew on me. Soon I couldn't get it out of my head, and then the next thing I knew, I was searching for his videos on YouTube. After listening to only three songs: 'After Tonight', 'Save Him', and 'Mr. Therapy Man', I had already decided that this was an amazing artist who's album I just had to own. When I bought and uploaded the album to my MP3 player, I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I was definitely optimistic. And I wasn't disappointed.

The one thing that sets Justin apart from other artists his age is his bluesy, soulful style. While listening to many of his songs, I could just picture myself in a dim, relaxed blues club; the cigarette smoke curling in the air and the room crowded with young and old alike swaying and clapping and whistling to the beat. Usually I don't listen to this genre, but Justin's music is refreshing in its originality and can be appreciated by any one who is a lover of music that is lovingly created with all the artist's heart and soul. Justin writes or co-writes all the songs on the album; a remarkable feat for someone so young. The only thing that saddens me is that he's likely to fall under the radar because he doesn't have that commercial pop sound that is so popular today. But whether he has 100 fans or 1 million, Justin Nozuka is definitely a singer that I'll support in any of his future endeavors.

My favorite tracks on the album are: 'Down in a Cold Dirty Well', 'Mr. Therapy Man', 'Criminal', 'Oh Momma'... actually, there's no track on this album that I didn't like! My only problem with a song is a minor one - on 'Save Him' or even a little on 'After Tonight', his voice gets a little high, to the point it sounds strained. It can be pretty unpleasant and cringe worthy, but it's not too bad, and I still adore both songs. 'Save Him' is very dark and heart wrenching, but it strikes a chord with me that ensures I won't forget it. Justin has mad talent; buy his CD, and you won't regret it!

I love this young man's music. His songwriting skills are above par. His next CD -- You, Me, Air, Land, Sea, Earth, Wind and Fire (ok, so I can't ever remember the name) is sublime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Love This Album As If It Were Brand New To My Ears, January 9, 2010

I love Holly. Justin Nozuka definitely brings something to the table. I remember the first time I heard After Tonight. It was in the morning while I was preparing for work and he was one of the Fresh New Artist on VH1. I immediately fell in love with the song. Did a little research on him. Check out more songs from the album on Myspace and it has been heaven ever since. I loved every song on the album and I couldn't wait to spread the word about this new and highly talented musician/artist. Everyone I shared his music with loved it. I am really looking forward to this years release of You I Wind Land And Sea.
