5.0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Put it Down!!
I just got Holly Would Dream and I blew off the rest of my entire day and read the WHOLE THING! I couldn't put it down. It inspired me to get out my lawn chair and read outside, one of my favorite things to do in the world. 2.0 out of 5 stars Cute idea but way too much fluff.
This book could and should have been about 150 pages shorter. First of all it was written in the first person which only gives you the viewpoint of one character. I don't particularly mind that if it is well done. In this case it was blindingly evident and almost distracting to me. I also was a little turned off by lack of propriety lines between father and daughter...

I just got Holly Would Dream and I blew off the rest of my entire day and read the WHOLE THING! I couldn't put it down. It inspired me to get out my lawn chair and read outside, one of my favorite things to do in the world. The characters were so compelling, the plot was zany and quick-paced, the writing was funny and smart. I loved this book and I miss it already. I hope Ms. Quinn writes another one soon. I felt like I was hanging out with all the characters thru the night, as I am pretty sure I dreamed about the book while I slept. This is empowered female heroine lit, perfect for a summer's beach read or even a lawn chair in the back yard!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully fun, romantic romp worthy of Audrey Hepburn!, May 23, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
I loved this book!!! From start to finish this story draws in the reader with well-developed, eccentric and entertaining characters and a plot line that will keep you guessing and flipping the pages, anxious to follow the heroine through foibles that will remind you of the best of Audrey Hepburn movies with an entirely new twist. A glorious, romantic romp of a tale. Great for a beach read or BFF gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun beach tale, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
Holly Ross wishes her life was something from a 50s Audrey Hepburn movie. At first things seem to be going her way with an upcoming wedding and big promotion.

But suddenly she finds herself homeless, penniless, and no longer engaged. She ends up going on a Mediterranean cruise in pursue of a tycoon who might help her win a bet that will get her the curator position she so deserves.

Then her life turns out like one of Audrey Hepburn movies, complete with a missing truck of priceless gowns and police after her. Now it's up to her to decide whether she wants to pursue what she really wants or go after something she thought could never happen to her.

I LOVED this book! Holly is a real hoot! She's hilarious, charming, and has real backbone. Holly turned near diasters to opportunities. I smiled at her persistence and spunk. Audrey Hepburn would be proud!

There are numerous references to classic AH movies throughout the book. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to enjoy a fun romantic romp similar to 50s movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A frothy, fun read!, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
I picked this book up on a whim when I saw the cover (being a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, of course!) and couldn't put it down. It's light-hearted, fun, funny, and I was cheering for Holly not just to get the guy but to get her dream job and the whole enchilada too. The characters are wonderfully realized and real, some of the settings fantastically "Hollywood glamorous," and the author weaves in some terrific old movie references for eagle-eyed fans to notice. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must Read!!! :), July 16, 2008

This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
I absolutely adored "Holly Would Dream"! It is a delightful, funny, and captivating tale about a young woman obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and who desires to live the style, romance and the absolute perfection of a Hepburn movie. (Don't we all?)

I love all of Karen Quinn's work: each book is more enjoyable than the last. (btw, I absolutely cannot wait for her stories to hit the big screen. I heard that "The Ivy Chronicles" might star Sarah Jessica Parker, fun, fun, fun!!). "Holly Would Dream" is my favorite book by Karen Quinn so far, though. Holly is completely lovable, genuine and funny and her exciting and glamorous adventures in the world of fashion and high society are so much fun.

An added bonus to reading "Holly Would Dream" is that it may inspire you on a treasure hunt to discover all 125 of Karen Quinn's clever winks and nods to the romantic movies of Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. A good excuse to watch these wonderful, dreamy movies again!

5.0 out of 5 stars I felt like I was part of this book!, August 21, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
Let me tell you, I finished reading the book in 8 hours (in total over 3 days).

I could not put it down! From the moment I started reading, my excitement and curiosity drew me
deeper and deeper into it.

I felt as if I was Holly, and I was right there standing next to her.
I felt like I was watching a movie in my mind, I could vividly see every thing she did, every place she went and every kiss she felt on her face.

This book not only bring Audrey Hepburn to life, it defines the pleasure revolution that each of us are trying to live everyday. I can not express how much I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fabulous Read -- Don't Miss it!!!, August 16, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
I can't describe how much I enjoyed reading Holly Would Dream! So unique, charismatic, funny, clever, elegant and empowering -- truly a tribute to the memory of Audrey Hepburn, and to Karen Quinn as an author.

Charming moments from Hepburn's classic films are interwoven with very contemporary language and issues, and each character is multi-dimensional with a distinct personality and voice. Quinn's highly sensory and sensuous descriptions lead you through unexpected situations -- my heart was racing with twists and turns, and I was laughing and weeping continuously throughout the novel.

In addition to the delightfully witty literary style and plot, this is a must read for anyone who is interested in fashion and its history. I really enjoyed learning about costume conservation and behind-the-scenes aspect of a fashion institute and, with all of Quinn's ideas for exhibitions projected through her protagonist Holly, Quinn should be a fashion curator herself. There haven't been displays that creative and exciting since Diana Vreeland's monumental exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I wished throughout the book that I could see these concepts mounted in real life. Well...maybe when they (hopefully) do a movie of this book!

My only disappointment was that the story had to end, but happily I can order other work by Quinn and look forward to whatever she writes in the future.

BRAVA!!! I've been recommending it to everyone...

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Holly Would Dream & not just because my dog & I are in it..., June 5, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
Holly Would Dream is such a fun read that I stayed up late and got up early to find out what happened next. I love this book, and not just because my dog, Benny the chocolate Labradoodle, and I are characters in it.

I love it because it's funny, sweet, sarcastic, and has some really wonderful characters who you're sorry to see go at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars you have to read this!!!!!, May 22, 2008
This review is from: Holly Would Dream (Paperback)
Karen Quinn has created an amazing adventure with Holly. I adore how she brings her characters to life. You'll love the settings and the references to fashion. The characters were as meticulously described and designed as the vintage/designer clothing that Holly so adored! You'll want to wrap yourself up in this book!

This book could and should have been about 150 pages shorter. First of all it was written in the first person which only gives you the viewpoint of one character. I don't particularly mind that if it is well done. In this case it was blindingly evident and almost distracting to me. I also was a little turned off by lack of propriety lines between father and daughter. Holly catching her father in a sexually awkward position was completely unecessary once, let alone more than once. The characters were flat and one dimensional, especially the periphery ones. The story had a couple of surprises but for the most part was fairly contrived and transparent. I really wanted to like this book but found myself struggling through it and hoping it would get better. Unfortunately in my opinion, it didn't.
