I received Hollyhocks cook book as a gift while visiting my sister in Virginia. As I was cooking many of our family meals I was grateful for a new source of inspiration and immediately started trying out some of the recipes. While I made the Spicy Carrot Muffins and Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies with Orange, my Mom made the Babka with Cranberry-Almond Filling. All were a big success - the recipes were easy to follow, used wholesome ingredients and the results were delicious! We went on to use this cookbook to make the rest of the meals during our family get together, and were not disappointed. Since our return home I continue to be inspired to try new recipes from the book - creating a long list of new family favourites. Highly recommended!

Hollyhock Cooks: Food To Nourish Body, Mind, And Soil is a compilation of recipes and cuisine from Hollyhock, a coastal retreat center on Cortes Island in British Columbia's Georgia Strait. Palate-pleasing, easy-to-prepare dishes come with straightforward instructions and helpful tips, as well as suggested variations for adding a personal touch or adjusting dishes to special diets, making for an especially delectable compilation. From Curried Summer Squash Half-Moon Bouquet; Roasted Barley Pilaf with Mushrooms and Hazelnuts; and Hollyhock Bread; to Mango Ginger Upside-Down Cake; Peach-Berry Crisp with Cardamom; and Fairy Tea, Hollyhock Cooks is a simply outstanding cookbook collection of wonderful recipes.

A good addition to the cookbook collection,

I have made several recipes from this book and for the most part have been very satisfied with the results. Mainly vegetarian fare with a few seafood recipes included too. THe Killer Peanut Butter Fudge Cookies are amazing.
Only one negative, recipes are usually for a large number of servings, not the usual 4-6 usually for more than that. Not a big deal but keep in mind if you don't want a lot of leftovers. Of course, if you are feeding a larger group of people, it works out fine. |
