Book Description

Hollywood Blackmail: A Seacliff Novel by Jackie Ashenden

Lizzie Kent needs to forget the past. She lives in total anonymity, immersing herself in nursing to help her forget. But when a man from her previous life turns up in her clinic, the life she’s tried to create for herself may come toppling down.

Ash knows what he wants and he wants Lizzie, the girl who left him all those years ago. As Hollywood's greatest action superstar no one says no to him, but when Lizzie refuses to acknowledge their shared past, he has to resort to a little old fashioned blackmail.

Will Lizzie revisit her past to enable her future with the man she loves, or do old wounds run too deep?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but it didn't exactly wow me February 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I have to say I was quite surprised by this one. I’m not overly fond of the male characters in Jackie’s books, because they tend to be a bit douchy. One in particular that I didn’t like was Caleb from Talking Dirty With The Player. I could not stand the guy. So I went into this book with a lot of trepidation. And it only grew when I realised the male character in this book was a big Hollywood star. Did I give a huge sigh of relief when he turned out to be hot, sexy, funny and sweet? He wasn’t douchy at all. In fact he was basically perfect, a bit narcissistic, but when your face and body is your money maker, who wouldn’t be?
Lizzie, or Elizabeth, or Coco, or whatever, really didn’t float my boat. She was everything I don’t like my female characters to be. Timid, scared and downright annoying. She tries to hide from her past instead of facing up to it. So your mother is a porn star? It could have been worse. So you losing your virginity was aired on some porn reality show some ten years ago? Well okay that’s a bit harsh, but hell own up to it and people will get over it. No-one makes that big a deal out of Macaulay Culkin and Lindsay Lohan’s mess up anymore. And hey, Kim Kardashian became famous for her sex tape. I admit, Lizzie had her moments and she is mostly likable, but she just wasn’t what I expected.
The story was, for the better part, good. But there weren’t any major moments that I could say wowed me. It wasn’t a storyline that kept me reading until the early hours of the morning and I found that I could very easily put it down. Nevertheless, I tend to always rotate back to Jackie’s work because her male characters are so freaking HOT!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Romantic Story February 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Lizzie(Coco) a daughter of a porn star. She has grown up in the spot light but when her first time with the guy she loves is aired in public she runs. Lizzie leaves everyone and everything behind to make a new life for herself. She doesn't want to be associated with her mother's porn star image. So, Lizzie gets a job as a nurse in a plastic surgery clinic for the rich who like their privacy. She has changed her name, hair, and eye color.

After years of Lizzie living a quite life Ash walks in the clinic and immediately recognizes Coco (Lizzie). Ash Kincaid is now a famous star. Lizzie wants no part of the media. Ash wants answers from her and will not take no for a answer even if he has to resort to blackmail.

Can these two find a balance? This was a good romantic story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light and Quick February 11, 2014

Format:Kindle Edition
A short quick read with a happy ending. Jackie Ashenden has given readers a second chance at love story that covers all the bases - engaging characters, beautiful settings, a good premise, twists and turns in a journey to love. It was sweet and predictable, but that was fine with me because I really liked the characters and wanted to see them reach happily ever after.

Review for Ramblings From This Chick.

Hollywood Blackmail by Jackie Ashenden is the first book in her new contemporary series, Seacliffe Medical. I have read some of Jackie Ashenden's work before, and I couldn't wait to read this book. I liked this book and thought it was a promising start to her new series. It was a quick and easy read that I found to be enjoyable.

Eleven years ago, Lizzie left everything she knew behind. She is now a nurse and loves the anonymity of the life she leads. But one night while working at the clinic, her past comes crashing back into her life in the form of her onetime love Ash. Ash is now a famous movie star and has had a ton of success. Even though she has tried to disguise herself, Ash instantly recognizes her. When Ash needs treatment he knows that they only person he wants to do it is Lizzie, but she is hesitant to agree. He threatens to go to her boss if she doesn't agree, and she reluctantly changes her mind seeing no other option. Ash is determined to use the two weeks of treatment to get her to answer some questions he has had for years as well as to get her into his bed. Lizzie is determined to get through the two weeks and move on once and for all. But the more time they spend together, the more they both begin to see that the connection they once shared has never gone away. Unable to fight it any longer they give in to their passion. But with Ash having such a high profile career that he is unwilling to give up, and Lizzie determined to not be noticed how can they possibly have a future together? Will either be willing to give up everything for the love that they once shared and a chance at forever?

I really liked Ash. He was sweet and thoughtful, charming and smoking hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review from The Not-So-Literary Heiresses February 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars

I requested this book because the blurb intrigued me. It’s reminiscent of Harlequin books, which used to be a total guilty pleasure of mine, though the similarities to typical Harlequin titles stop with the blurb. I was hoping for something light and easy, and this book gave me exactly what I wanted.

Lizzie a.k.a. Coco Dawn (which is the worst name in the world) is hiding from her past. She’s changed her name and appearance to escape the stigma of being a porn star’s daughter turned reality TV maven. Now working as a nurse at Seacliffe Cosmetic Surgery, one of the best plastic surgery clinics in LA, the last person she expects to meet again is first love Ash Kincaid, her former bodyguard turned action movie superstar. Ash didn’t expect to find the girl that got away working as a nurse at a cosmetic surgery clinic, but now that he’s found her again he wants her back, as well as get an answer to the question of why she left him with only a letter as explanation.

I really like Lizzie’s back story. In today’s world where every starlet wants their own reality TV show, Lizzie wanted nothing to do with it. Lizzie grew up with a disinterested mother whose life’s goal was to be under the spotlight even if that meant using her daughter to gain high ratings for her reality show. I totally empathized… even if I’d never get myself in that situation. Her first and only time with Ash became a spectacle when it was featured in her mother’s show, turning something special into something the public. Lizzie had enough, and I could totally understand her leaving that world, as well as her decision to leave Ash so he could still pursue his dreams of stardom.

What I like most about this story is how it focuses on the the main characters.

More About the Author

Jackie has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild mannered fantasy/SF/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart - writing romance. She particularly likes to write dark, emotional stories with alpha heroes who've just got the world to their liking only to have it blown wide apart by their kick-ass heroines.

She lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband, the inimitable Dr Jax, two kids, two cats and some guppies (possibly dead guppies by the time you read this). When she's not torturing alpha males and their stroppy heroines, she can be found drinking chocolate martinis, reading anything she can lay her hands on, posting random crap on her blog, or being forced to go mountain biking with her husband.
