5.0 out of 5 stars Patti Austin and Gregory Hines Are Brilliant, July 6, 2007
This review is from: Hollywood Bowl Orchestra: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I own the Hollywood Bowl Gershwin CD and I love it. I was surprised by it. Play the samples if you can but the singing and sound are clear and crisp and you can understand every word.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some very pleasant listening, a good well thought out compilation, mediocre notes though, June 15, 2011

This review is from: Hollywood Bowl Orchestra: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I loved the vocal selections on CD 1. Patti Lupone singing Doin What Comes Naturally with naughty original lyrics. Gregory Hines and Patty Austin doing Let's Call the Whole Thing Off by the Gershwins sparkles. The second disc is all instrumental with a fine reading of Gershwin American in Paris, homage to Gershwin as a Hollywood person of some stature in his day. The notes are typical skimpy Philips notes, but then this is a reshuffle of 'Greatest Hits" so what can one expect. If one wants to see how notes can be done try any of the Naxos Film Classics series, there is real dig in deep serious stuff, not fluff. Overall, this is a pleasant well thought out collection, with ca 60 min on CD 1 and 78 min on CD 2. So a value buy for the film and stage enthusiast who wants symphonic sound. Recommended.
