5.0 out of 5 stars Great summertime read
This book was a lot of fun. I'm sorry, but I disagree with the other reviewer when they state that this book was misrepresented. It's clear from both the title and cover of this book that it's meant for those that love gossip, and that's just what it delivers. It may be true that, at times, this book strays where some people don't want to go, but, for the most part,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather tame information for such a "confidential" book.
The book was not exactly what it represented itself to be. The format looked thrown together and the information itself was quite weak. I do not recommend this book to anyone who craves real Hollywood insight

It's clear from both the title and cover of this book that it's meant for those that love gossip, and that's just what it delivers. It may be true that, at times, this book strays where some people don't want to go, but, for the most part, it's a fun and light read. I'm giving it five stars because it succeeds in being what it purports to be, a gossip book. I was on vacation when I read it and found it to be the perfect read when sitting by the pool and drinking margaritas. I mean, let's be honest, doesn't everyone have some morbid curiosity about Hollywood and the celebrities that it covets?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Look at Celebrities, April 8, 1999
This review is from: Hollywood Confidential: An Inside Look Public Careers Private Lives Hollywood's Rich Famous (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. It had a fun take on celebrity. Let's face it we always knew celebrities were a little wacky to begin with and this proves it in a fun way. The book is loaded with a lot of great lists like a list of actors with the biggest private parts. You'll never guess who made it on that list! A list ot weird names stars give there children. It made me feel kind of sorry for Bruce and Demi's children. A list of who's been in rehab. It's filled with a lot of interesting lists. The one thing I did not like about this book was that the author seemed to have it in for Melanie Griffith. I do not know if the author is male or feamale. But it seemed very obvious to me that he/she was jealous of Melanie for being married to Antonio Banderas. I feel that the author's treatment of Ms. Griffith was uncalled for. But other than that it was a very enjoyable read. I would most definetly reccommend it to those who are curious about celebrites.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book That Lacked Follow-Up on Stories, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Hollywood Confidential: An Inside Look Public Careers Private Lives Hollywood's Rich Famous (Paperback)
I found this book to be an insightful read. I always knew that actors led dysfunctional lives, but this is too much. This is the vermin that society looks up to? That says a lot about where we are as a society. Reading the books certainly makes me dislike some of these characters in Hollywood. Now that the election has passed I dislike these actors even more because who are they to be influencing people's vote? And Arnold is Governor, what a joke!

I wish the book would have had better follow ups on lawsuits and other complaints on these so-called stars. I can only imagine what really happens in Hollywood that Ms. Amede does not know about. She hasn't gone to same sex celebrity orgies and other disgusting activities that only happen in Hollywood.

As they say, beauty is only skin deep and all that glitters is not gold. I can see Hollywood is called Tinseltown. Just look up your dictionary if you do not know what the word tinsel means.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Compendium of Stale Tabloid Rumors, January 14, 2010
By
Peter L. Winkler "Word King" (North Hollywood, California USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Hollywood Confidential: An Inside Look Public Careers Private Lives Hollywood's Rich Famous (Paperback)
The late Jay Bernstein showed me this book when I interviewed him, mystified by the inclusion of his great friend Nick Adams' name on a list of gay actors. This book is a compendium of celebrity trivia and rehashed tabloid trash about Hollywood stars. Like other similar books, Amende is content to recycle old factoids that have been proven untrue. On Sal Mineo's death, she writes, "His assailant remains unknown, but the murder is generally thought to have something to do with Mineo's secret life in the drug-sodden gay S&M subculture." This is wrong on all counts. Mineo was gay, but was not a drug user or into S&M. Mineo was fatally stabbed on Feb. 12, 1976. Lionel Raymond Williams was convicted of the second-degree murder of Mineo by a jury in a Los Angeles court in 1979. She also repeats Kenneth Anger's assertion that James Dean liked to be burned with lit cigarettes in gay bars and says the coroner performing Dean's autopsy noted those scars. That's impossible, because Dean was never given an autopsy. The emergency room doctor who declared Dean DOA made a superficial examination of his injuries and his written notes say nothing about burn scars of any kind.

We all enjoy reading HollyWood stuff. At least we know they're not perfect. Of course, the cutest one there was KEANU REEVES! Everyone's dirt was great. Someone should write these books more often. No offense to anybody though.
