5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful book about LA!!!!
Hollywood Death Scenes is the perfect purchase for those who are fascinated by Hollywood lore. This book provides many interesting details about the lives and deaths of celebrities we have come to know through their music, television shows, and movies. 3.0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures, but nothing new here...
I'm an old-time Hollywood death hag, so the stories in the book were interesting to me. The photos are excellent and the writing is nice, but unfortunately, other than some obscure L.A. area family murders, the celebrity death stories have all been done, and in an address format too. And "Hollywood Death Scenes" is a little too close to "Hollywood Death and Scandal...

Hollywood Death Scenes is the perfect purchase for those who are fascinated by Hollywood lore. This book provides many interesting details about the lives and deaths of celebrities we have come to know through their music, television shows, and movies. The familiar tales of Marilyn Monroe, River Phoenix, and John Belushi were wonderfully told. However, the true treat for me were the sections about the celebrities I was less familiar with - and, surprisingly, there were so many of them. I was amazed by the tragic circumstances that lead to the untimely deaths of legends like Lenny Bruce, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, George Reeves, William Holden, Natalie Wood, and Janis Joplin. And the stories about such rising stars as Rebecca Schaeffer and Dominique Dunne showed how quickly Hollywood dreams can come to an end. Also, Hollywood Death Scenes provides fascinating information about tragic events that have affected the millions of "normal" people who live in LA, such as the stories about the havoc wreaked by serial killers Richard Ramirez, Angelo Buono, Ken Bianci, and Charles Manson. With its tales about the lives and deaths of the famous and not-so-famous, Hollywood Death Scenes will definitely give the reader a riveting account of the many, many tragedies that have become so much a part of the history of LA.

Take a walk on the wild side with this one. It can get fairly gruesome (some of the pictures are on the icky side), but it is an interesting collision when crime and the glam capital of the western world collide.
My impression is that even the most innocuous (aka less sensational) crimes seem to take on a darker, more sinister dimension when it happens in LaLaLand.
Be it the Hillside Strangler or Richard Ramirez or Charley Manson, you are going to find this a hard book to put down. You'll look at lesser known perverts and sociopaths and wonder how they all seemed to land in Hollywood. In fact, this is a hard book to shake off after you've finished reading it. It sticks to you like a heavy duty dose of OFF on a sticky summer's night when the mosquitoes are having a feeding frenzy. James Elsworth, where are you!

4.0 out of 5 stars A dark, interesting book, January 23, 2002
By
This review is from: Hollywood Death Scenes (Paperback)
I have read this book and found it quite interesting. It was dark, but I, as so many do, wanted to know more about my favorite celebrities, and sometimes watching mysterys & scandals isn't enough. I don't concider myself morbid, but I found the book quite enjoiable.

While visiting my daughter in California, I decided that we should visit Westwood Cemetary. Opon finding it, I was looking for Dorothy Stratten's headstone and was asked by a man if I needed any help. He then started to tell me where most of the famous were enterred; he was Cory Mitchell and when I asked how he knew so much he told me he was writing a book. This book turned out to be "Hollywood Death Scenes". A great book since it is so well researched. It is actually 50 or so small novelettes about each famous person who died around Hollywood. Buy it; you won't regret it!!!!!

Hollywood Death Scenes is a fabulous book! It is very well researched. Anyone would be able to find people and places that interest them in this book. The "extras" at the end (graveyard information, Coroner's Gift Shop, etc.)were fascinating. The photographs were great. Corey Mitchell has an "easy to read" writing style. It is as if you are talking to him. I highly recommend this book.

Couldn't put down this thrilling and comprehensive account of mass murders and much more. Well researched book that kept me intrigued and amazed at such utter barbaric and senseless acts committed in the luxurious Land of Hollywood (to the pretty, gifted and fortunate people).

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book for the photos!, November 24, 2001
This review is from: Hollywood Death Scenes (Paperback)
From A to Z, this photo - filled book will keep true crime fans interested for hours. Mitchell has put together a fascinating collection of short summaries of Hollywood crimes from the well known to the obscure. If you love Hollywood lore you will enjoy this book. Included are extra tidbits of info...descriptions of the Serial Killer Auto Graveyard, the haunted Queen Mary oceanliner, and photos of famous stars' gravestones.(these photos could have been clearer) Background designs in the text are a bit distracting but arty nonetheless. This is a book you can leaf through like a magazine or just sit down and start reading. Good job. I'm holding on to my copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars an instant true crime classic, April 14, 2006
This review is from: Hollywood Death Scenes (Paperback)
Hollywood Death Scenes is one of a kind. It's the true crime book all others should have been. An entertaining, delightfully morbid journey, taking the reader to scores of scenes of tinsel towns most famous (infamous) murders, suicides, unexplained deaths and celebrity graves. In cool factor alone, this book is worth the already rising price. A meticulously researched collection of gruesome information compiled by the author in one volume, giving the reader time to enjoy the sites and take the tour of Hollywood's Death Scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best There Is, February 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hollywood Death Scenes (Paperback)
Hollywood Death Scenes is incredible! There is more information, addresses, and photos in this book than any other so-called true crime tour guide. Ignore the person who said there is nothing new here...he could not be more wrong. Everything from serial killers, mass murders, celebrity murders, suicides, and graves to corrupt cops and more, more, more!!! Even if you have read every single book on the dark side of Los Angeles you will still find new material here. Corey Mitchell is a wonderful writer and I can't wait until he puts out another in the Death Scene series.
