Review

The first new studio album from Hollywood legends L.A. Guns in 7 years finds the boys paying tribute to the city of their collective birth with a heavy slab of classic Guns-style metal!

Produced and engineered by the inimitable Andy Johns whose credits include The Rolling Stones Exile On Main St., Led Zep s IV, and, more recently, the supergroup Chickenfoot!

Full publicity campaign headed by Spinner PR with a radio campaign handled by Skateboard Marketing!

Phil Lewis & Steve Riley taped an appearance on VH1 s That Metal Show that will air in late July!

Three videos have been filmed for You Better Not Love Me, Requiem (Hollywood Forever) & Araña Negra!

The band will perform at the illustrious M3 Rock Festival in May, which will be filmed and rebroadcast in HD to 35 million viewers on satellite and cable TV!

Ever the road warriors, the boys will be hitting select U.S. venues in May through July with many more dates to come!

Formed in 1986 at the height of the Sunset Strip metal explosion, L.A. Guns has become one of the Golden State s great musical dynasties, stretching into its 4th decade and showing no signs of fading. The band s first 3 albums are celebrated as definitive expressions of the no holds barred, melodic metal that consumed Hollywood and the nation in the late 80s and continues to find new audiences, generation after generation. Through numerous line-up changes and a wildly shifting musical landscape, the group has survived and thrived by staying true to the ethos and sound that earned the group its legion of dedicated fans. It s been 7 whole years since the last L.A. Guns studio album - 2005 s Tales From The Strip - but that long wait is about to end with the release of Hollywood Forever, the band s newest effort and perhaps their best yet! With vocalist Phil Lewis at the helm, this album draws on the group s greatest strengths including the propulsive drumming of longtime Gunner Steve Riley, the gigantic riffs of virtuoso guitarist Stacey Blades and the solid grooves of bassist Scotty Griffin. Add into the mix one of rock music s most celebrated producers, Andy Johns, and this band is ready to once again conquer the Sunset Strip! --Official Press Release

It's LA Guns! Been since 2005 for some new material. Just saw them at M3 Rock Festival. They rocked the house, as they did last year. Good CD. Got the 80's sound that I always love. If you like old school LA Guns with Phil Lewis at vocals, you'll dig this. He's hasn't lost his range like most of the other 80's glam metal singers.

When I read that L.A. Guns had a new album coming out I was eager to hear what they might come out with. That excitement was tempered a bit when I read that the title of the album was called "Hollywood Forever" (2012). The whole Sunset Strip theme seemed a little stale, as even their last album was called "Tales from the Strip." I listened to the album and it's exactly what I thought it would be; fourteen pop-metal songs in the vein of vintage, old-school L.A. Guns. However, that turned out not to be such a bad thing.

The important thing is that this is a good collection of tunes. Seven years have elapsed since their last album and the band has had time to write and record well-written, catchy songs. This is L.A. Guns doing what they do best, playing sleazy, 80s glam-metal. If it ain't broke, right? Founding member Tracii Guns may be gone, (he currently has his own version of L.A. Guns) but his replacement, Stacey Blades fills in just fine, as he did on the "Tales" album. Singer Phil Lewis sounds good for a man in his mid-50s and bassist Scotty Griffin and drummer Steve Riley provide a muscular rhythm section. Veteran producer Andy Johns' (Led Zeppelin, Van Halen) excellent production helps these songs not sound stuck in the 80s.

The band may not be exploring any new ground, but the album manages to not sound stale. If you are a fan, pick this album up. It's about as strong as anything else that they have ever released.

This cd takes me back 25 years...Phil's version of LA GUNS sounds great here...the songs, the guitar riffs/leads,bass,drums,and Phil's voice seems to never change...having seen both versions of LA GUNS over the past few months,i feel Phil's band best captures the sound that made us fans in the first place.

When I first found out that L.A. Guns was coming out with a new album I got so excited and couldnt wait to hear it, after all it was a 7 year wait from their last album. I just recieved the album today and now I know why I got so excited in the first place, this CD stays true to who L.A. Guns are, a Sleazy rock band with great riffs, if you didnt know any better by listening to this CD you'd think you were back in the 80's when they first started out. Its that good! Though every song on the album is great id have to say that "Dirty Black Night" is the song that stands out as my favorite, I love the headbanging guitar riff on this song and the lyrics tell me that it seems like Phil Lewis is ready to throw down! L.A. Guns threw down on this album and any great rock fan will love this!

Love this album. Love L.A. Guns. Requiem (Hollywood Forever) is my favorite track. This album was truly worth the wait. Glad these guys are still making music. While other acts from their era have either softened their sound, retired, or are riding the coat tails of their former victories, the L.A. Guns still sound as vital, impassioned, and relevant as ever.

I absolutely LOVE this album! It's a wonder I didn't wear the CD out within the first two weeks from playing it so many times! It a very well-rounded album. It's got the sleaze, the ballads, the metal, and the straight up rock n' roll. It has a very nice flow from start to finish. One of the few albums where I don't have a tendency to skip at least one or two songs as I listen to it! I really think the guys have something special on their hands with this one! Check it out! You won't be sorry! \m/

11-25-12 Edited to add: It's been over 5 months since I bought this album and I am still listening to it at least once a week. It has become one of my favorite L.A. Guns albums. These guys are seriously underrated!

Hollywood Forever is vintage L.A. Guns. Phil Lewis sounds just like he did 20 years ago and the band sounds fantastic. I have had the album since its release last week and was able to see the band live this past weekend in Minnesota. They sounded amazing and played three songs off the new album: You Better Not Love Me,Sweet Mystery, and Queenie. Queenie is a fabulous straight up R&R tune that could easily be played on any rock station in the country. I also like Dirty Black Night, song #7, which is a kick as* in your face tune that could be one of the best songs they have ever recorded. It is really cool to see a band from the '80's come out with something as impressive as this album, I hope everyone gives it a listen. Also, Andy Johns produced it (Led Zep, Rolling stones, Chickenfoot, La Guns, etc). Buy the album!
