Silva Screen Records and James Fitzpatrick presents - The City of Prague Philharmonic, Crouch Festival Chorus (Choir Master:David Temple) Conducted by Paul Bateman and Nic Raine, music from the Great American War Films on a two disc set - "Hollywood Goes to War". This wonderful package is separated into categories from - THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS - THE CIVIL WAR - THE FIRST WORLD WAR - THE SECOND WORLD WAR THE PACIFIC - WAR HEROES - EUROPE - ARENAS - THE KOREAN WAR - THE VIETNAM WAR - THE COLD WAR, each segment is beautifully told through music and a stand out that is emotional and powerful. The album is not your same old and over dramatized collection of scores, that is tense in content and gives you nothing in return. Every track is right on to the "original film score" you heard when you sat in the theater and watched with wide eyed expressions with every scene.Highly recommend this to the discriminate "film score collectors", to include in their vast collection of wonderful film music. This is a well balanced collection from outstanding composers of our time, over thirty tracks and two hours of music, not to be missed, pick this one up - "Hollywood Goes to War"! Poor Performances,

This excellent music is presented in marginal and harsh-sounding performances by the City of Prague Philharmonic. The Glory and Getteysburg balances are way off...the orchestra (and chorus especially) has no clue as to the blend or effect required for these wonderful pieces of music (where is the boy's choir??)Percussion is often wooden and too close to the front soundstage. There are far better renditions of most of this music available..although not in one collection. (See Telarc's Victory at Sea and some of the London reissues of film music).
