Book Description

This book tells you what happened to Brenda Dickson’s “Jill Abbott” on The Young and the Restless. It takes you through her life in Hollywood from age 17, after winning Miss California until now. How she was discovered as an actress. The book has fabulous and stunning Hollywood color photographs taken by top photographers, including her best-selling posters.
Her lovers and relationships with Mike Nader (Dex Dexter on Dynasty and Dimitri Marick on All My Children), Richard Thomas (while filming The Waltons), Ernest Thompson (they dated when he was writing the play that became the Academy Award-winning film On Golden Pond), the famous retailer Fred Segal, and Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr., her first real love. It describes her wealthy two ex-husbands, who she believes were directly connected to executive producer William J. Bell, and how they helped to keep her out of Hollywood.
It covers the blacklisting in Hollywood, who Dickson has reason to believe producer Bill Bell orchestrated (the breach of contract and illegal firing), and the $11 million fixed trial. (It tells how all of her trials were fixed.) Mafia cartel judges and attorneys were enlisted to launder $15.5 million, which was her two divorce estates, and how they ruined her multi-million dollar career and left her without property and without support TWICE! Why they kept her out of Hollywood because she brought in more ratings than the entire show! She talks about the Bill Bell sexual harassment, and how he got hold of her at a very young age.
The Bill Bell Hype Train is about to crash and the truth is about to come out! Fasten your seatbelts, as you ride with the “Bell Family Roller Coaster.”

1.0 out of 5 stars Let's take a look at the finished product February 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I love Brenda Dickson.

Dickson was famous in the seventies and eighties for playing Jill Abbott on "The Young and the Restless". I however don't know her from this role, as my acquaintance with her is from the vanity video she produced in 1987, entitled "Welcome to My Home", which has since gained worldwide attention for her indispensable advice on style and fashion. Brenda starred, wrote and produced "Welcome to My Home" and it lives on as a timeless snapshot of the way the beautiful people lived in the mid-eighties.

My True Hidden Hollywood Story: My Memoir of Sexual Harassment, Blacklisting, and Love Affairs with the Most Powerful Men in Hollywood is Dickson's account of her time on "The Young and the Restless" and the aftermath following her firing from the series in 1987. Dickson shares tasteful stories about her love affairs, who included Barry Goldwater, Jr., "Dynasty" star Michael Nader and "The Waltons" star Richard Thomas. She took great liberty with dates and tossed years all over the place, as some events wouldn't have even happened if we accepted her chronology of events. For example, she alleged that her affair with Richard Thomas occurred when she was nineteen and he was seventeen, which would have placed the year at 1968. "The Waltons", however, didn't appear on television until 1972. Dickson wrote of going to "The Waltons" set with Thomas and meeting his costars, so their affair couldn't have started while they were still teenagers. The years didn't add up in countless other reminiscences, and I noticed a pattern in Dickson's telling of events that she shaved off three years from her birth year. It is common knowledge that she was born in 1949, and at the end of the book she mentioned her real age on at least two occasions, so she obviously had nothing to hide.

I am reading the e-version and find the revelations of Brenda Dickson's working experience with the late Jean Cooper fascinating. Their scenes together have to go down as the most well-known storyline feud in Daytime Television history. The book is an inside expose on one of the most successful Soap production companies in history- The CBS/William Bell Productions cartel. Actors starting out in Soap roles should make this required reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now we Know the Rest of the Story!! August 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been a fan of Ms. Dickson's for at least 30 years. I often wondered what happened to her and why she was let go from the Young and the Restless. How could the star of the show, the woman who brought the ratings to the show be let go in such a way? I was "Young and Restless" and left without answers when she was fired. Now, after all these years the truth finally comes out. This book is amazing. The book has beautiful color photos along with several black and white photographs. The book is in large print so it's easy on the eyes. The content of the book tells the true story of how Ms. Dickson was treated by William Bell and others on the show. It goes from sexual harassment to blacklisting. It also tells about her affairs with Barry Goldwater, Jr., Michael Nader and Richard Thomas to name a few. The book has her time working with Bob Hope and being there to entertain all the service men that was in the Vietnam War. The book tells the story about her two failed marriages. The book talks about her Mom, Dad and her brothers and her childhood. If you're a fan, you'll laugh, you'll cry and you will definitely want to open a can of whoop ass on the people who treated her so badly. My Grandmother use to say to me, don't treat people dirty because it all comes out in the Wash. I am so happy that Ms. Dickson finally has told her side of the story. I can't wait until this book becomes an Audio book. I would encourage people who want the truth to purchase the book and see for yourself. Don't go by the negative post about the book. This is a real collectors item.

3.0 out of 5 stars A wild ride of a story June 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Brenda Dickson will always be known as Jill Abbott and twenty plus years after her firing, fans still miss her in that role. That is a testament to the actress.

The book is in need of an editor. It is very repetitive and quite frankly, all over the place. It is totally worth buying, however, as it is an interesting story of a black-listed actress.

There are some bold accusations in the book. Are they true? It is hard to say. I would like to believe her, but something stories do not seem as truthful compared to what others from the set have said. I would say that half are 100% true and the rest are more her point-of-view of events looking back years later. I guess only the reader can decide.

Sadly, her words about Jeanne Cooper are not pleasant which is a shame as Cooper always professed her love for Dickson..

5.0 out of 5 stars Give the woman credit June 1, 2013

Yes, was it a little off the mark in 'all about me', but in the end I think she pulled it off. As a kid watching Young and Restless, if you had told me that Mrs. Chancellor was having an affair with Brock, I would have told you to ef off. So, in regards to juicy tidbits this book has it, but you have to read between the lines.

In regards to Bell..there is not enough to back it up..so I will go with it with doubts. I she had to put up with the behavior she states, she should have quit long before. The marriages and lawsuits are something else! So a beach read is a yes. Is she nuts? - yep, but all she would have to do is----get a good hair dresser and tone that blond down, get some whisps in the bang area, drop back ten on the botox and we'd all love her again.

None of us would ever know about the cray, cray, if she didn't write it herself. Maybe because I was a YR fan, I have to give her the benefit of the doubt. She needs a therapist for sure, but I love her for what she was then. Now, what can she become in 2013? The possibilities are endless...if she'd let the past go and get a real 'non seinfeld' agent. Totally wish this woman the best for all her life!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Is it her view or the truth? Or maybe somewhere in the middle?
I am honestly not sure how much of it is her view, as opposed to the truth, which sometimes is somewhere in the middle, between two people's views.
