If you love stories of old Hollywood - buy this book!!!!,
By Laura (Colonia, NJ United States) - See all my reviews

Hollywood Haunted: A Ghostly Tour of Filmland by Laurie Jacobson and Marc Wanamaker is first rate in recounting ghostly tales of the bygone era of classic Hollywood. Jacobson and Wanamaker grasp the reader from the very first page and keep you on the edge of your seat right until the end! I felt as if I was with Jacobson behind the movie screen at Grauman's Chinese Theatre as she grippingly recounts her encounter with the Theatre's own supernatural guest. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of classic Hollywood and great ghost stories.

Spine tingling! Dont read alone!!!,

Uhhh! Jacobson covers a broad spectrum of freaky fright starlitghts on this one. Bella grabbing the wheel of his hearse for one last stroll down Hollywood and Vine. The now Comedy Store that used to be the notorious mob affiliated Ciro's where such a dark specter lurks even a Vietnam vet can still barely talk about it to this day. The house where Sharon Tate saw a vision of her grisly end. And even the Holly Mont haunting's were the famed paranormal investigator Barry Taff couldnt get enough of the ghostly goings on. Especially when a lady who lived blocks from the homes called him weeks after the studies asking why he had left a note in her home when he had in fact left the note in the Holy Mont home. Ahhh, dont read at night or when you are alone in the house!!

The best of Hollywood's true hauntings!,
By Tony O. (Santa Monica, CA) - See all my reviews

This book is awesome! It's so much fun to read about silver screen celebrities haunting modern day Hollywood. I have read several of this writers other books and have seen her on many talk shows giving her insight into Hollywood. She is certainly knowledgeable about Hollywood history as you will find in Hollywood Haunted, as well as her other books. I can guarantee you will enjoy this book. Also, you can use this books as a guide when visiting Hollywood and see if you don't come face to face with one of Hollywood's ghosts.

Although the book could be longer, it is definitely interesting and worth adding to either your Hollywood or paranormal collection. I was also pleasantly surprised by how well written it is. Finally, the book design is good, and the photos are excellent.

I bought this book when it first came out. Makes for a great read and kept me up for a few nights as I was reading away. Jacobson is an A-1 chronicler of the Hollywood ghost scene and has made me a believer after I visited some of these sites myself.

My biggest problem with this is the lack of detail. It's a fluff piece, pure and simple. There are some intriguing ghost stories in here, like the ones about the Comedy Store, but not nearly enough of them and with not nearly enough historical detail or research. It is far from comprehensive, as many Hollywood ghost-stories I've read about on line are not even mentioned here. Granted, if a book were going to cover EVERY single ghost story from the history of Hollywood, it would be a thousand pages long, but many of the most prominent ones are not even mentioned here. I read this for pure entertainment, since I do not actually believe a single one of these ghost stories, but the chapters were far too skimpy to give me much satisfaction. Since the author has supposedly been collecting Hollywood ghost stories for 10 years, this book seems awful light on facts.

With excellent research and great style, this is a perfect book to curl up with while waiting for trick or treaters. This is by no means just fluff. I really felt as though I was getting the straight story on some scary doings...

Journalistic style enhances ghostly tales...,

I am already interested in spirituality, plus tellings of Earth-bound spirits, and circumstances surrounding them,...first hand observations. With a book like this that begins with metaphysical insights and establishes credibility with paranormal experts it sets the stage for good reading without over-embellishments or tabloid flashiness. Poignant, and I come away from it with insight about "letting go" and let live. Laura gives a good entry into the genre of this type book. I gave the first edition to my Mom, and I await to be sent the October '99 print because I found out that it has three new stories. If you find yourself caring for some of these stories, send a prayer for these Souls to be released, send one for them to make the choice to be free. But some of them may have gone,...already. But I learned a lot from reading the information surrounding these stories. |
