5.0 out of 5 stars The single that US radio djs overlooked !!!
Great danceable mixes with enough versions to satisfy any trend. Perhaps this is not the best single Madonna has released, but anyway, it is a pop melodic song with great lyrics and a catchy chorus. 3.0 out of 5 stars where's the Sander Kleinenberg mix?
This is a fine song from Madonna that, unfortunately, became her first single not to make Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart since "Everybody" back in 1982.

Its album version is very good, but I must ask: where is the kickass remix by Sander Kleinenberg? Yet another fine remix that will only be available as a bootleg white-label 12-inch. Who rejects these...

Great danceable mixes with enough versions to satisfy any trend. Perhaps this is not the best single Madonna has released, but anyway, it is a pop melodic song with great lyrics and a catchy chorus. After the "American Life" single, this was obviously the correct single to follow after all the controversy caused by the first single and its "Wonderful" video. Living outside the USA gave me the chance to enjoy the original "American Life " video as well as the song over and over. I agree with many people. The USA were not ready to hear from its most famous pop icon that the American Dream is based solely on looks, power and money where nothing is what is seems. It's hard to admit it, but it's a truth well known around the whole world. Madonna dared to sung the wrong lyrics to the wrong country at the very wrong moment: Irak war (which by the way, has caused even more US casualties after the conflict "ended" ).
After my brief analysis, I don't wonder why US djs haven't played this song. While they have not declared openly a boicot to Madonna's records, that's what is obviously happening. All around the rest of the world, Madonna's "Hollywood" is Number 1 for the third consecutive week, with Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" at number 2, struggling hard to dethrone the queen of pop (not an easy task in a LOGICAL music world). "Hollywood" debuted at number 4 in the Billboard singles sales chart and has became Madonna's 30th Number 1 in the Club Play charts. How could you explain that this song has not earn enough points on Radio Airplay in the USA? As a result of this "Not declared" boicot, Hollywood is the first non charting Madonna's single on the Billboard's Hot 100. The only loosers are the US radio listeners which haven't been able to enjoy this nice song. I hope that US radio programers open their mind a little in order to embrace the next single "Nothing Fails" , an hybrid bewteen "Don't Tell Me" and "Like a Prayer". This is a deep catchy song that deserves a better luck. HIP HOP has dominated the Billborad Top 10 in the recent years. This is kind of funny because you don't even need to "SING" anymore in order to own the number one "SONG" in the USA.

These are some very modern remixes with a retro vibe. My favorite is definitely the Oakenfold mix, which is just an awesome dance floor stomper. The Jacques mix and micronauts mix are very interesting as well. I'd have to say i like this maxi more than "American Life" and "Die Another Day", which were also very good.
Madonna is the queen of maxi-singles!

5.0 out of 5 stars HOLLYWOOD! THE DJ'S WILL TAKE U THERE!, July 9, 2003

If u like hi energy dance music, Hollywood is for you! The first track is the radio edit(3:42) which is same song from the original American Life album. This single is a classic in it self and Madonna has done a perfect job whenever she performs this song live for her fans. She did the latter in New York and London

Track 002 is Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duck mix(7:02). This remix is rather timid and very much laid back so to speak. You will not hear this remix on a Saturday night at a club unless it is the last song that the dj plays. Madonna's voice is refreshing on this track though.

Track number 003 is The Micronauts Remix(6:25)It has a kewl dance beat which is groovy. You hear Madonna gasping for air over and over again at the begining and throughtout this track. "Check it out" she says. I like it.

Track 004 is the Oakenfold Full Remix(7:01)! This is the remix to die for! It is one of the remixes that the hottest night clubs in Houston, Tx are playing. The remix is fast, glamorous, cute, somewhat of a rave, techno and house combined. One of the standouts about this track is that you get to hear Madonna sing! Paul Oakenfold has done it again! Get ready to dance my sisters...and brothers!

Track 005 is Deepsky Home Sweet Home Vocal remix(7:34)If u are a great dancer when it comes to dancing in pairs, this song is for you? Atleast that is how I envision it. "Push The button..Don't push the button trip the station change the channel" madonna blurts out over and over again. I do like this remix but I also believe that Deepsky did a better remix of "Die Another Day."

Track 006 is Calderone & Quayle Glam Mix(9:22) This remix and Paul Oakenfolds are the best of the five remixes(excluding track one which is the original from American Life) on this album. Once again you get to hear Madonna sing as the dj's work their magic with the music.

In case anyone was wondering, the "Thin White Duck" remix on this CD is the remix heard during Madonna's performance of "Hollywood" on the MTV Video Music Awards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indeed Hollywood style, July 11, 2003

Madonna does what few have done before, have a wonderful, unique dance beat with meaningful lyrics. She combines the synthesizer and guitar splendidly, giving it that modern edge that dance and pop music needs today. She expresses her lyrics wonderfully, proving to the listeners that Hollywood isn't all glitz and glamour, rather, there are many dangers. Close to the end of the song, she sings something in a brilliant sound. If you want to discover this brilliant sound, you'll have to buy the single or her album "American Life". You won't be disappointed.

Her lyric that will express your feelings about "Hollywood": "you'll get it right now, oh yeah. Cause you're in Hollywood."

You may have to think about it to understand my point.

this is an excellent collection of remixes. after the let down of the american life remixes, i am glad to see our fav fab pop icon is back in true form. these are not only daceable but have the moody air about them that works wonders when combined with a nice pounding dark dance beat. overall a steller effort and a beauitful comeback after the last single!! a song i am proud to have blasting from my speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hollywood: So Good, Indeed, Madonna!, February 19, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hollywood (Audio CD)
I discovered this little ditty last summer by means of Yahoo! Music's old Madonna video section (the reason I say "old" is because they no longer have all her videos, just her new ones). I instantly fell in love with it, and I knew I had to have it. So started a summer which sparked an interest for Mrs Ritchie's music within me. I've been hunting down Madonna singles ever since. Anyway, here is a review of each track:

1. Radio Edit (3:42) 9/10: This is good, but unfortunately, it isn't the album version.

2. Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duck Mix (7:10) 10/10: This is my favorite Hollywood remix. It is very 80's-sounding. I love it when Stuart Price mixes her vocals ("Hollywood-ood"). It's a cool effect.

3. The Micronauts Remix (6:25) 7/10: Excuse me, Micronauts; it seems that you have failed to label your mix correctly. It should be called the Micronauts DUB, because there aren't any verses or choruses! This is nice, but repetitive.

4. Oakenfold Full Remix (7:01) 10/10: This remix is GORGEOUS! I LOVE IT!!!! Paul Oakenfold should have gotten an award for this. It is the best remix on here and my second favorite.

5. Deepsky's Home Sweet Home Vocal Mix (7:35) 10/10: After Deepsky's EXCELLENT remix of "Die Another Day" back in 2002, I didn't think they would top themselves with this remix. Boy, was I wrong. They did a bang-up job. I love it.

6. Calderone/Quayle Glam Mix (9:17) 10/10: This one is...more tribal than then other mixes. It's still good, though.

TRACKS MISSING FROM THIS MAXI:
Avid Diva Remix (4:35): Mashes up all the remixes from this maxi and turns them into one whole song!
Album Version (4:24): You know what it sounds like.
Mike Danavan and Idaho's Murder on Fairfax Mix (8:52): I have never heard this, but I HAVE heard that Mike Danavan puts out interesting remixes and mash-ups (i.e. the Madonna/Janet Jackson combo "All Nite Stranger"). I think it would be interesting to hear what it sounds like.

PS: I have heard that there's an ULTRA-MEGA-SUPER-rare CD with "dub" versions of all the remixes on here (even the Micronauts', which makes absolutely no sense to me). So, if you can get your hands on it, KEEP IT AND TREASURE IT!
